Actually no, the warranty only covers the red ring of death which is the most common problem, fair enough, you think. Well no, because it's not the only problem to plague the 360, the disc drives also break quite frequently, to the point where not only will it not read a disc but it won't even open to allow you to put a disc in. Not covered by the extended warranty, even though Microsoft are aware it's a frequent problem.

More to the point, why should any one buy anything expecting it to break? Sure you can get it fixed or replaced but why should you have to? Why not just buy a more reliable console?

Congrats on your problem free 360, I don't know anyone who hasn't had a problem with theirs.

Where'd he get the idea that the Wii works well with the 360?
Price and game catalogue. You know, the important stuff.
And what, prey tell, in the games catalogue of the 360 works well with what the Wii has on offer?
Viva Pinata comes to mind. There a lot of more casual games on the 360 than the PS3 and a potential buyer will see that. It also has a much larger games catalouge than the PS3 and the potential buyers will see that. They will also see the much cheaper price tag and jump on that. If they wanted another console.

I don't think the people that are influenced to buy a console by what the see on the shelves would buy more than one console anyway, so they will probably just stay with the Wii.

Thats not complementing, thats overlapping.
Exactly!

The people moving up (so to say) from a Wii to a 360 don't want to get a console that will "compliement" there own, they want something similar, yet more "hardcore" to the Wii. The 360 fits this Bill much better than the PS3. They don't want the opposite gamming experience, they want a familar gamming experience.

But like I said before, I don't think many of thr casual gamers plan on becoming anymore hardcore.

So they think that instead of getting a game to work well with, but hold a flavour distinct from, the one they already bought, they want one thats basically the same, so they can throw out the console they already bought?
Not quite.

They would rather get the 360 because of the lower price and the games that interest them (arcade and all that jazz). However it will still be a different gamming experience as they are free to choose from all the "hardcore" games in the 360's libary. It's like baby steps really, you start off small and then move up.

Your faith in M$'s repair and replace service is astonishing. My friend was without his 360 for a month and a half AND they had the nerve to say the damage to his hard drive was HIS fault. And all he was doing was playing Halo 3. Now I will admit that is a special case and I'm pretty sure the odds are around %60 fine and %40 owie when it comes to a 360.

Either way with a next gen console pick you're flipping a coin. Will my 360 eat itself? Or Will my PS3 ever fulfill it's potential?

Also, I find this guy's arrogance with "You can graduate to a 360 experience!" similar to Sony's "You won't be able to find a PS3 on a shelf!"

Another thought: If everyone BUYS a Wii and then decides the novelty has worn off but doesn't return it, a very likely scenario as most people who buy Wii's have youngin's or friends they can have over for Brawl or what have you, then Nintendo wins...by lots.

I'm going to have to defend Indigo here, my friend the Nin-boy says that as soon as LittleBigPlanet comes out he's getting a PS3.

And there are loads of casual games on the PS3, better ones than the weird "casual" games for the 360 like that "1 vs. 100" (love the show btw).

In their conference, Sony showed montages with PSN games that were "casual" like Pixeljunk Eden, Fat princess(?), Ratchet Quest for Booty(again ?), and PSP games like SSD for PSP, R+C Size matters, and some others that escape me at the moment.

To me, those are real games that "casual players" would want to play instead of the weird "You're in the Movies!" crap and the game that iNiS is NOT supposed to be working on "Lips" (where the hell is our Elite Beat Agents 2?!)

But, could you list some "casual" games for the 360 as i honestly can't think of that many. Really, i can't.

But i think that more Wii owners would go to PS3 to compliment their burnning desire to kill everything with some nice games inbetween. The PS3 has plenty of games that are "hardcore" and are either out now or comming out.

To Jumplion:

Yes but if you're friend is following LittleBigPlanet than wouldn't that make him less casual and more of a Hardcore gamer?

I don't think all Wii owners are going to go to the 360 but the more casual players, the ones who for example only own Wii Sports, Warioware and Guitar hero (or something similar) are more likely to get the 360. I persoanlly think the reason for this is the cheaper Arcade version of the 360. The Arcade version is the cheapest and comes with (I think) eight arcade games. This is what I think will draw the casual gamers to the 360.

But remember, the people I'm talking about here are the people who don't know what E3 is, let alone watch Sony's press confrence.

But like I said before, these people are not likely to want to get more than one console, but I think if they did want to get another console than they would probably get the 360.

If they where more of a "hardcore" gamer than they would probably get a PS3.

Ahh, that cleared most of the things you said up.

But which type of Wii owner are you talking about, the (as you said) "casual gamer" who knows nothing of the gaming world (Moms n' dads, grandmas and such, chicks with boobs) or the adamant Nintendo fans?

Because if it's the former, then yes most likely they would go for the 360 because of its (illusion) of a casual gaming platform. If it's the latter, then i would imagine that most of them would buy the PS3 as the more "hardcore" (ugh, I feel naughty saying that now) because i am sure they would have had previous experience with frachises in the PS2 era (again, my friend comes to mind with his experience with the Ratchet+Clank games, he loves them even if he sucks at them)

I could imagine my friend enjoying games like inFamous and definately R+C Quest fo' Bootahy unless the control sceem scares him.

There may be some amount of truth to this.

The Wii was the first next-gen console I bought. I had never planned on getting a 360-- in fact before the three major consoles were released, I was a rabid Nintendo fanboy.

I did quickly realize, however, that the Wii wasn't putting out the games I wanted nearly fast enough. Way too many lame party games and gimmicky titles. So I picked up a 360, since (at the time) I didn't want to dish out 600 bucks for a PS3. While I still love my Wii dearly, I notice that there are way more green games on my shelf than white ones.

It's a wonderful idea. But I don't think it works. Nintendo has this, weird trend of creating these rabid fanboys. Sure some people will get tired of the Wii, and might move onto something a little harder, but it's also just as likely that when Wii stops being fun for them, they will simply find something else to do, like collect stamps, or wash the dog. Or many of them will simply grow out of it and not play them anymore because they have other things to do, like "Date" but I guess Microsoft does not understand that concept.

God I've been hearing the same broken record ever since the wii came out nearly 2 years ago, how long does it officially take for a cretain novelty to wear thin? 'cause first they said that in 2007 the wii would get old, then they moved it to 2008...

I think that Wii is in a market exclusive to itself it is good to hook people into video gaming for those that haven't before. When they say that Wii users will graduate to the 360 it's because they will grow out of the Wii. The Wii is for party games that are easy and fun I think that is what makes the novelty of it last that the games are fun that is what gaming used to be the 8 bit characters weren't pretty but we all have played Super Mario Brothers thousands of times.

The only real competitor that Microsoft isn't worried about is Sony. I know I will be crucified by the Sony gods for saying this but PLAYSTATION IS DEAD!!!! At their E3 press conference they touted that 130 titles are coming out in the coming year....for the PS2 they are clinging to their last gen mega product for dear life. They are releasing new packages with games for the PS2 GREAT most people who want a PS2 have a PS2.

I didn't really care about the whole HD DVD v. Blu Ray Battle, but I was rooting for HD DVD just to see Sony and their propensity for creating their own version of a perfectly good format tank so they will learn a lesson. At least I can smile at the fact for every PS3 they actually do sell they loose money because who cares they have already tanked 3 BILLION DOLLARS into the project so whats another few milllion in losses.

You forget to mention the amount of time, and hassle, getting the Xbox 360 replaced has...
It's not like "Hey I need my xbox 360 fixed" and Microsoft is like "Sure thing!! We'll send someone over"

No, it's more like "Hey ship this to "bla bla", then wait A WHOLE MONTH... for us to ship you a REFURBISHED Xbox, that isn't even YOURS and have that one break, so we can do this again, and again, and make you switch to a Reliable system."

In March, the Xbox 360 sold less than 190,000 units, a flattening of sales that analyst Jesse Divnich said indicated "market saturation" for the console; over the same period, the Wii clocked more than 700,00 units sold.
Typo... Don't it needed to been like 700,000 or sumthin liek that?

I support the Wii to a degree, I like getting much better resolution and stuff out of my GameCube games, and I love the stability that the Wii has over other "next-gen" consoles. I enjoy SSBB more for the music as the controls have been dampened.

I do agree that the system should be rid of Friend Codes, DLC should be added (or improved in the case of SSBB), my pre-ordered GHIII should have had stereo sound, and the vertical positioning of the system causes discs to load wrong.

Until they get the 360's "gremlins" problem fixed, I will never buy the system. I know all too well how Microsoft's support system works, and why its best to avoid it at all costs.

As for the PS3, if it were cheaper, didn't play Blu-Rae discs (DVDs look just fine on my 32" wide and are cheaper), supported all of my PS1 and PS2 games, wasn't so BIG, I think I'd consider buying it...

Last but not least, PC gaming. As repetitive as the games have been getting (FPS, RPG, FPS, RPG), I think I'll stick to Star Trek: Armada 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2...
A ps3 that dcan't play blu ray discs cant play games.
Dumbass.

Thats what I was saying. It would help if people read my posts everynow and again.
