As someone whom poured more time into Shadowrun than any other title on the 360, it always kinda surprises me that people treat the two control methods so differently... But then again, I mostly played as a wired reflexes katana-wielding human/troll, so I laughed in the face of precision weapons and map knowledge meant always having teleport lines away from ranged fire anyway.

Control inputs didn't give either side an edge... It was that overpowered thing called teamwork. I lone wolfed almost all the time, but when you get four players on the other side in a party communicating things actually get challenging.

You had your chance Micro$uck, it's over, we don't want or need you anymore. Please, do everyone a favor and get out of gaming all together,

The only thing that I like about this "cross platform" thing is that we PC gamers will get Xbox exclusives to play.

That's about it really, I'm not so much into multiplayer games.

Being able to play against people on other platforms would be kind of cool

But the thing that would REALLY interest me would be the ability to take my Xbox 360/one disks, and pop them onto my PC and play them.

Do that Microsoft, THEN you will have convinced me to pick up Windows 8
This, totally this. The Xbone is basically a PC in its hardware and architecture, if Microsoft set up an app for Windows 8 that allows a PC to play Xbox One games I would totally buy windows 8 and pay for Xbox Live if necessary.

Microsoft would never do anything like that though.

Yup, we're going to get just some Plants Vs Zombies turn-based spin off or something. With Microsoft taking the PC as basically some "way to big" tablet, I simply don't give two shits about them or their "gaming" ideas.

Just think that point need to be highlighted, they are for crossplay as long as you buy Windows 8, it just another scheme so they can sell more Windows 8.

It's basically the same as the PS4 & Vita, Vita sales are crap so they are heavily developing crossplay for it with PS4 in hopes of selling Vita to everyone who buys a PS4.
This also needs to be highlighted
The industry is gradually embracing a cross-platform dynamic, he said, and he sees Xbox Live as being central to that. This "connected ecosystem" across different gaming devices is the future of gaming, he said.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if they bring out their new GFWL replacement platform and force people to buy Xbox Live to use any of it's games, I just want it to be known that "I fucking called it".

All I have to say to this is "No f***ing s**t, Sherlock!"

Really...has it really taken this long for these dumbasses to listen to their customers? Of course we want the oppurtunity for cross platform play!

I do understand there are some difficulties in the process, but I will point to the fact that Final Fantasy XI has been cross platform FOR 9 YEARS ALREADY!

Most of the problem has been Microsoft doing it's corporate dick-swinging thing (see also Xbone premiere debacle.) But they are hardly alone and I get that. I really do.

Just irritating to hear corporations saying, "This is a good and completely brand new idea! I'm glad we thought of it!" When the public and the consumer has been asking for it with varying degrees of volume for over a decade.

When did it ever not make sense? It's always made sense! I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to program a few servers to deal with it.

Yeah no Microsoft, you aren't going to get gamers to buy Windows 8 and an Xbox Live subscription to play cross platform games with the Xbone.

That'll just force more people away from you onto SteamOS or Sony.

This would be exactly what Microsoft needs to turn around the upcoming console war and possibly even outright win it.

Once a feature becomes something users don't want to live without they will happily pay 5-10 bucks a month minimum or in this case completely ignore hardware that doesn't support that feature.

This is nothing new, they tried the exact same bullshit with Vista and that was complete crap as well.

Now they are attempting it with an OS designed for tablets with a console that looks like it'll go down with 'New Coke' as what not to do PR-wise.

SteamOS can't come soon enough.

It'll take more than the temptation of roflpwning gamepad players to make Windows 8 successful.

I just read that..nevermind my old comment since it's all pointless because I will never use that garbage called Windows 8 no matter what other people say.

Seems MS is desperately grasping for an edge over PS4. Too bad they haven't actually supported PC gaming in a while, just look at abomination that was GFWL. They would need a new framework to pull that off, so it seems we would be saddled with something GFWL-like again in the future.

Ah, so we will have the horde of console pesants in our games now. well, maybe they will be like goths in Rome, they see what PCs can do and start wanting one.

The part that makes sense to them is not supporting community, it's the "buy a new OS every year, also have you tried our app store" part.

MS as always excelling at arm twist marketing.

I definitely like the idea of cross-platform, but we haven't really seen a working example yet. Maybe with those PS3/Vita games, but that's still in it's early days. And enough with the cloud worship already.
There was always ps3 to pc portal 2. Granted you've already probably gotten a lot of posts about that.

While FPS cross-play is an absolutely terrible idea (Microsoft also acknowledges this) I do think there's some room for xplay in more turn-based play styles - essentially anything competitive that requires twitch reflexes should never used mixed inputs.
True, but take the example of Timesplitters Rewind. It is a fan made mod to substitute for Timesplitters 4. The plan is to allow you to play cross platform as many ways as possible. You will be able to join mouse only games. Controller only games. Or mouse and controller games. So there are simple ways around that. How well it will work will ultimately be up to the gaming community (as in how many of them use controllers on the Pc).

OT: I think this a good idea, but given Mircosoft's recent track record someone along the line will do something horrible with it. Like making it a requirement to pay for xbox live on Pc, or have windows 8. Then again I don't know why this is big news. Like it says in the article, this isn't new tech. its been around for a while, just not widely implemented. I mean we saw it last generation heavily in Portal 2. Even this time around I think that it will just not happen with enough games to get the idea off the ground as it will probably need heavy cooperation from both the game devs and Microsoft.

If the steam OS somehow mangaes to natively run .net applications MS is fucked for PC gaming. Although I doubt that would happen.

Uhhh how about making a crossplay between PS4 and Xbox?

Consoles and PC's just don't mix very well unless its treated with ALOT of care, and seeing as how you see PC's as little more than Ipads with microsoft branding...

Yeah Don't care at all Micro$oft, still not buying Windows 8 or your Xbone,

Also please shut up about the "cloud gaming experience"
