I have played with the tech preview and I can tell you right now it is even better than the jump from Vista to 7
Wait, so you are saying that windows 10 is the best OS in existence? because Vista to 7 was jumping from Worst OS i ever used to best OS i ever used. if the jump is that big that means windows 10 is the ultimate OS.
Of course, having used the tech preview myself, i know that this is not true....

Yup. But here's the joke. MS hasn't said which version of Windows 10 you'll get to upgrade toand chances are it's a trap. You upgrade find out it's the shitty basic version that barely does anything and has arbitary limitations on ram, etc. OF course you can't down grade without reformatting your hard drive and reinstalling your old os and all your software from scratch. Or you could pay a small fee to upgrade your upgrade to a useful version of windows 10.
Unless i missed it, they havent even said what versioning Win10 will have at all, so it definitely smells like a trap. Personally im not upgrading for at least months in its life when these things are figured out and aired publicly. Im running Win 7 Enterprise for a reason.

Old saying...nothing good is ever free. Seriously...
This is Microsoft, they are not known for generosity. They are known for sneaky backstabbing and shaddy industry practices.
It won't happen mostly because from the business side...I don't see businesses even starting to get on board with that for at least a year because no IT manager is going to recommend a shift in OS before having siufficient time to see how it performs in the real world.
Secondly the desktop market whil likely being faster to upgrade will probably not go well for the consumers.. WHat happens if a week in you decided you liked your old OS better... is there an easy down grade button? Was there one in Vista or Windows 8? Or Windows Me? Nope.
I know. I too wonder where is the catch. but s ofar it does feel a lot like a loss leader trying to keep market share. and id be ok with that.
yeah, business are going to lag behind in upgrading even if its free version. heck half of my workplace (over 500 people) still use XP.
all that still does not say much about the average impulsive consumer though. many people are used to "just upgrade anything you can" mentality now without knowing what they are upgrading. and if its a free upgrade many people will jump on it.
