I have been struggling with a problem for quite some time now. I'm trying to write a story set in a post-apocalypse of such. Basically, humans have traveled to another dimension and colonized a planet where god and demons exist and can be summoned if you have the right tools. There is 'magic,' which is just science that isn't explained to the general public, and Magic, which is something only demons and those poor, experimental half-breeds can use, and as such is frowned upon, unless it is harnessed by those who can afford to do a summoning.

What happens is, the planet as well as the demons revolt, and the advanced civilization is completely destroyed. A lot of crops and technology are destroyed, and eventually forgotten about in the struggle for survival. This problem is fixed by sending the demons to their own plain where they can be summoned as slaves, but a lot of damage has been dealt already.

I start the actual story eight hundred years later, but I don't know what kind of technology my world would have. As far as I can tell, a lot of advanced weaponry would be destroyed, so swords are becoming popular again, but muskets and rifles (or a close approximation) have been re-invented. And beer still exists. Beer will exist for as long as there is humanity.

Could you help me out? What do you think would remain/be re-invented 800 years after the apocalypse?

A lot would have to be destroyed for the human race to regress back to swords.
in 800 years a lot can be done.
look at us. only been a few hundred years since the industrial revolution, and we're all typing away at electronic computers.
unless they were nearly wiped out, they would of rebuilt by then and probably moved on.

I bet after 800 years a lot of basic technology would have already returned. What you should think about is what is important to the people living in this story of your's. Do they need to communicate faster? Or grow and harvest crops in a large scale? What exactly are your characters doing? What would people in a post apocalyptic future need to build to help them survive?

P.S: I never really answered your question. My bad. Think stuff like crude automobiles, telephones etc.

Yeah, I guess I should have been more specific. Sorry about that. I'm talking about EVERYTHING being destroyed. Like people having to rebuild their lives out in the wilderness because the cities were too toxic for anything to live in due to the destruction of the nuclear power plant and things like that. Also, the colony would have gone from a population of 10 000 to that of 278 people in less than a year.
And thanks.
