I really wonder, what would happen if developpers waited until the game was finished before giving a release date for games? Would it affect sales negatively or positively? Maybe I'll make athread about that one of these days.

To think that this was one of the first uprisings of ex company game makers creating their own thing without publishers and such breathing down their neck. Now it seems like they can't even get the game shipped out on time despite that. Of course, a smaller team needs time to make their game right, I get that. It's pretty surprising that this game has seen so many delays. Blend that with the community manager fiasco, and it's safe to say this project is a bit of a clusterfuck

The only thing that could make this funnier is if and when it does come out, it requires massive patching.

Publishers, especially AAA ones may be evil, but there is something to be said for those to keep one's feet to the fire.

Despite it? It could well be because of that very fact. This is, as you say, one of the first few, so it would make sense if they did not well understand the timeframes and pressures they would be under. Untrodden ground makes it more difficult, not easier, a lot of the time.

I don't doubt that Inafune (as well as the ex-Rare employees) will be happy with their decision in the long run, and so will we, in all likelihood. Hiccups like this are regrettable, but they're a small price to pay for less publisher interference.

Or Peter Molyneux, for that matter.
No comparing him to Peter would be too kind, at least Peter sorta delivered some of his games :p
Hell, I'd add that Peter at least still has this aura of enthusiasm over his games. Tim always just seems down about his stuff(though I'm aware how popular the stereotype of the self-critical and tortured artist is so maybe that's good for some people).

But I will say that I'm pretty sure this delay was announced back in like August. As much as I love to jump on the hatewagon for this game the more and more I see of it, this isn't exactly new information.

Is this game ever fucking coming out? I mean seriously, what is this? The third delay?

Wow. The multiplayer that no one really cares about is STILL broken all these months later?!

They really ought to just release the game's single player and give us the multiplayer at a later date, because this is getting rediculous.

I stopped following after awhile (despite backing it), are they really making a multiplayer for the game now? Who ever asked for that?

Feature creep is really the ultimate enemy of the crowd sourced funding.

I thought it was public knowledge by now that they have some sort of online co-op/race mode thingy in the game.

And no, I don't know who asked for that. Me and everyone I know who backed it said "I just want megaman back", and while the single player seems to deliver (at least from the demo I've seen and played at a friend's), these constant delays for the multiplayer is really just making the hype invert and crash. :s

I'm convinced the game itself is far from finished, and the only way they can save face (third time's the charm) is by claiming there's an issue with the multiplayer. It's basically dev speak for "Gimme one more minute (even though I need five)!".

I backed this at the 60 dollar level. It's unfortunate, every quarter this is delayed, I find people that worked on this project more toxic for future kickstarters.

Yeah like, I was a backer when it first came out and while it's been long enough now that my pocket isn't hurting, I AM getting quite tired of it. (then again I only paid $5.00)

You guys are simply making a platformer. How incompetent can this team be? I'm starting to wonder if Capcom very much knew what they were doing when they kept snubbing the man in making a Megaman game.

And this is why you don't pay for video games before they're released. I have no idea why people so willingly pay for the promise of a game.

Maybe its because we have a whole generation of gamers who never experienced the crushing dissapointment of Spore and still have some optimism. Jesus, imagine if THAT was a Kickstarter game. That would have been something to see.

So...Vegas style odds. What are the odds that the game will come out in Spring and what are the odds that it will be delayed.

I'm going 500:1 on it coming out and 2:1 of it getting delayed.

I have paid for games before they came out... with the caveat that the studio in question have proved that they can be trusted with such things; i.e. have released a good game already. See Amplitude Studios and Harebrained Schemes. Still, it's not a model I would endorse widely; the more people do it, the more they get burned because of unserious actors.

I get that it sucks to keep hearing it's delayed and delayed, but c'mon people. Get upset if/when you see the game is bad, not when they're delaying it to make it better or fix what problems it has. This is by far the lesser sin than shipping a broken game.

Don't care about this game in the slightest but I think any game developed through Kickstarter deserves some slack for, you know, not being developed by an actual company(or atleast not an established one). Inafune doesn't have the resources nor manpower he would have had at Capcom. This is just some dude making a game out of passion so forgive the guy for not having the ruthless efficiency of a multinational.

If this is discouraging for Kickstarter it goes both ways. Game-designers(even talented ones) would probably think twice if they had to choose between staying at their corporate job or risk being chased by entitled internet mobs. So yeah, what you have left on Kickstarter will indeed be the chaff while the really good designers waste their talent making f2p/mobile/annualized garbage.

Though I think the fact that a studio like Inafune's already struggles to produce a simple 2D platformer through Kickstarter really shows the limitation of the platform. I don't ever see a modern AAA-game developed outside a corporate infrastructure. Which means fewer worthwhile titles and more nickle&diming the consumer.
