I just finished Millennium Actress moments ago and it bothers me as to why I didn't decide to watch this sooner, especially when my respect for Satoshi Kon has been sealed ever since I saw Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika. This anime is beautiful, it really is and it saddens me to no end that with the death of Satoshi Kon and the lack of funding to continue the last work he was working on before his untimely death means that there will never be a movie or anime like this, Satoshi Kon's works can be counted as an irreplaceable branch of anime that has just gone extinct, and unless we actually do our part and find a way to help the people beyond Satoshi Kon's Dreaming Machine, the magic of Satoshi Kon ends with this and Paprika.
Overall, the name of this anime is both a lie and an understatement, the story of Chiyoko Fujiwara as she travels through her past with her loyal admirer Genya and his partner Kyoji as they unravel her history and memories goes far beyond a millennium, for the story of the Millennium Actress is a timeless masterpiece from beginning to end.
I highly recommend this movie, it's one of the few examples where anime is actually treated as a legitimate medium for story telling and it's just so damn beautiful, It's a far better Cloud Atlas than Hollywood's Cloud Atlas.
