mincraft bugged on mac

hey guys, just wondering if any of you have the same problem and if you know how to fix it.
since about 5 days, minecraft has been bugged on my mac. It downloaded an update and now it's stuck on the updating screen. it just says 'Updating Minecraft' in big white letters, with 'done loading' beneath it. the green progress bar is stuck at 95%.

I already tried deleting it and re-downloading the client, but that doesn't fix the issue. are there other files I need to delete in order to reset the download or something?

If you go to 'Username/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft', copy the 'saves' folder to somewhere else and then delete the entire minecraft folder and run the client again, it should work.
You can then paste the saves folder back to the minecraft folder once it has been created again and your worlds will be there.
