How would you feel to get rid of the controller, and just control the game with your thoughts? Put a small headband on and slaughter baddies by just concentrating.

In the first episode of Prototype this they looked for different biofeedback instruments and other equipment to monitor humans mental state. They found a company that is developing a thought controlled computer systems. What they have already done, is a small headband, that registers your neuroimpulses and controls the game. At this point you can lift rocks of push a cube with your mind. Ok, so the program is not yet very complex, but the point is, that by concentrating and thinking of moving the object actually moves it on the screen.

What do you think is the future of this? What games or software would benefit from this most? When can I get one?

Having used a biofeedback machine let me tell you it is very expensive. Somewhere in the $100,000 range. I don't thing putting conductive goop in your hair and attaching everything properly is going to go over well with gamers. Also, getting your brainwaves just right to get it to work is very very hard.

It'd be pretty cool. It'd probably change the way we play games (peripherally) forever.

I'd have to wonder though how it'd work with things like FPSes. Would it be a matter of "shoot there!" where you focus on a point on the screen, in which case people effectively all have aimbots strapped to them because their gun cursor points where their brain is focusing on the opposition's head, or whether it'd be a matter of "aim up, fire, turn right, fire" etc. Probably a matter of the latter followed by the former as technology progresses, but if it turns out to be something that gets developed I'll be watching it with interested eyes.

From the years I've spent on the internet I've come to the conclusion that a lot of gamers barely have enough brain power to remember drop their pants before they take a shit, I don't see these geniuses welcoming with open arms the idea of gaming with their minds.

This showed a machine that was something new. It required no conductive goo, and it was easy to place. It was pretty much put it on and play, quick experience. Can't find the picture of the machine anywhere, and I don't have the episode available now.

you have a very rosy view of humanity. but i agree, without the dropping their pants part, reasonably speaking, most of them probably have buttons or zippers, or at least some strong velcro...

but for the technology... i dont know could be cool, it would make games that have those impossible controll schemes viable. would eliminate claw-hand syndrome. would also kill like all of my exercise, and i have an abnormal brain thingy, does that mean i wont get this technology as soon, if ever?
