Pick up Half-Life: Source, I know you said 'besides the Half-Life series' but this will play on pretty much any PC. You should post your system specs or something so we know what the limit is in terms of what we can recommend you :)
Yeah but I dont know what my specs are for my laptop :p

And Im waiting for the remake of Half Life (Im a very patient person and when it does come out I will have a good desktop) I dont wanna buy it and then a couple of months later the remake comes out for free.

People have been waiting YEARS for that remake to come out. To be honest I didn't know it was still being developed.

Someone said mount and blade: Warband. Get it if you haven't already got it. Great game and there are literally hundreds of good mods for it too.

It will run on a computer from the late 90's as well.

Don't buy Deus Ex, it has aged terribly. Please, please, don't listen to any nostalgic people stuck in the past and thinking this game at all holds up to modern shooters. It does some things well, and it deserves its place in history, but in terms of actual gameplay quality and intuitiveness compared to modern first-person games it basically pales in comparison.

Pick up Half-Life: Source, I know you said 'besides the Half-Life series' but this will play on pretty much any PC. You should post your system specs or something so we know what the limit is in terms of what we can recommend you :)
You know, I recently have been replaying some old games. I started both Half-Life and Fallout expecting to not like them so much today and find them dated, but was pleasantly surprised. Half-Life is still good after all these years and decidedly worth it. (It may be better to play the original version + the high definition pack from Blue Shift, that's what I did; I think the Source version is not compatible with the HD pack and doesn't improve the graphics very much). I also liked replaying Fallout more than I expected.

However, Deus Ex I started expecting to like it, but didn't. Didn't go very far either. I keep saying to myself that it is kinda slow to start anyway (as I remember it) and that I should keep on it, but I end up playing other games and don't get back to it. Maybe I will, but I don't know. I liked it better before. Maybe the problem was higher expectations I had for it, compared with Fallout/Half-Life. Maybe the game really didn't age well. I'm not sure.

Nice, I am waiting on that too :)

Go to Start, in the Search box and type Run and press Enter. In the Run box type DXDIAG and press enter. Then tell us what it says under the System and Display tabs. (or take a screen capture with Ctrl+Print Scr, then paste it into MS Paint, save it as a JPG and upload to something like http://www.imageshack.us to show us)

These are your system specs and will help us find compatible games for you.

You're being too optimistic if you think it'll be out in just some months :)

As I said, I replayed it some months ago. I thought the aging graphics would somehow interfere with the imersion. They didn't. Once the thing starts and you have to desperately get out of Black Mesa, the game has you in its grip. It was very fun. (Actually I had the benefit of knowing how to get out fast from some chapters that I got stuck the first time around, like On a Rail, but if you have trouble you can take a look at walkthroughs). I also used the HD pack from Blue Shift (got the Half-Life anthology years back) that improves some character models. At least the scientists and guards look better.

It would be great to play the Black Mesa remake, but if you're looking for a good shooter to play today, don't wait for it. I also recommend STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

TF 2 and Half Life 2 are not graphically heavy. I ran tf2 on a windows 95 pc from 8 years ago without a hiccup...

As far as old fps games go I'd go with system shock 2 (that game is tight) and doom 3 remains a classic. Also, go for unreal tournament 2004.

I really doubt your computer can't run TF2. My old computer would choke up when I had more than 2 video layers in sony vegas and it handled it no problem.

Yep. Now could you do the same thing, but this time click on the Display tab at the top of the DXDIAG box and tell us what it says there?

Your CPU and RAM are not too bad, now we just need to know what Video card is in your laptop, or if you are using Onboard etc.

So I just recently got Steam and I was wondering if you guys can help me choose shooters that are good and cheap(besides TF2 and the half life series I will get those when I get a better PC), my limit is $30.

So what shooters are good on steam? And should I buy the Deus Ex collection or only the first one?
Alien Swarm.

Game by Valve, for free!

If you are seriously worried about not being able to run Valve games...then your list is really cut short, most of these peoples recommendations certainly wouldn't run if you consider the Half Life series to be graphic intensive. Odds are you assumed some how that you couldn't run it, if that's not the case then jeese man, the game came out six years ago. Computers that are years older than HL2 can run it fine.

well from seeing your graphics card...oomph. you need an update on that...

im sure you are money intensive if your limit for steam is 30 bucks at the moment, which more power to you, but you can get a cheap card that works with your system im sure for 70 bucks or so that'll play probably all the games your looking to play just fine. (not modern games but obviously half life and PLENTY of other shooters)

can't recommend too much beyond whats been recommended already.

Right, as usual with a laptop the GPU is the let-down. I am going to make a few suggestions of good shooters I think might run alright.

F.E.A.R - You can get it on Steam for $9.99 and comes with the core game plus the two expansion packs; one is okay, one is crap, but the core game is pretty good.

Hitman 2, and Hitman: Blood Money - Both great shooters with many satisfying ways to assassinate your targets, and can each level can be played in a number of different ways. Both are good games, Blood Money is a much better choice, but I am not entirely convinced it will run on your system so check out a demo first. Both can be bought for $9.99 each on steam.

The original Call of Duty perhaps? Haven't played it for years but I remember the campaign being better than the newer COD games.

Also, all the Half-Life games will play on your System fine. We are not talking High settings here, but yes they will play.

I will be back with more suggestions later :)
