To escape from reality last night, I decided that I would watch a play (It?s like a movie, but the actors usually have talent). Unfortunately this play decided that, ?to hell with the paying audience! This is a play we made for ourselves!!? This play was codswallop, absolute codswallop! And I actually was in high anticipation of this play because it was made by ?Shared Experience?.
I managed to miss a few of the characters names. So to avoid too much confusion I?ll give you a key to explain: -
CB = Crazy ***** ? The main character
ID = Impotent Dude ? the husband of CB
SRO = Samara* Rip Off ? Some strange child who came out to molest CB
CBS = Crazy *****?s Sister - Crazy *****?s Sister
CBBM = Crazy *****?s ***** Mother ? Need I say it?
CP = Chav Prostitute ? The mother of this baby thing
BBP = Beautiful Baby Prostitute ? The child of CP
CP and BBP actually have character names, but in fairness to the rest they get acronyms. CP = Rose. BBP = Beauty (very chavish name).
Well without further arduous explanations I will commence the actual review. What was interesting about this play is that, the actors were actually quite talented; they delivered their lines punctually and without delay. However this makes it all for naught when the dialogue they deliver is about as smooth as broken up gravel. At one point *SPOILER ALERT* during normal everyday conversation without provocation ID decided now was the time to revel he had no sperm by shouting ?WHO WANTS TO FUCK A DUD!? which took me by surprise a little. I?m sure the intended effect was to make the audience gasp at the realisation that he was Impotent, but in all honesty I just found it funny. REALLY FUNNY.
The movements seemed really false and fake too. CB must have Parkinson?s because she wouldn?t sit still for one FUCKING second. I?m serious she flailed her arms about for almost every word. Maybe this was so deaf people could understand her emotions? But I don?t care? It just annoyed the hell out of me.
Something I?ve neglected to mention this is an artistic play; probably is too being I did not understand anything. Every other scene involved SRO and CB making out (or something along those lines) the second act actually started with SRO being sealed up in a dolls house and being taken off stage to be raped by ID? I wish that were just a hyperbole! Another scene involved ID having sex with CP while CB twated off! Again I wish! These ?Artistic scene had no bearing on the story what so ever, and all they did was detract from the action. And annoy me? A lot?
I suppose that it?s not all bad, I?ve been a bit too harsh on this play. There are some interesting moments when CB is talking to CBBM and the SRO is reflecting her inner feelings toward her mother. And later when CB talks to CBS, SRO starts to imitate her childhood with her and? Well so what? That is cool, and interesting, fine screw you?
To conclude I?d say, steer clear of this play. Unless of course you have a need to feel artistic and more highly evolved over you fellow man. In which case you can watch it and suck off the director until he is but a husk of a man.
