I haven't seen any tweets about this either... kinda funny considering I only use twitter to follow the Mojang team.

So that puts him only how many months behind the modders?
Somewhere between "has a company to manage" and "also working on other stuff" months.
Gotta throw the Terraria comparison here.

Terrarias last update: 50+ items, 9 new enemies, multiple biome updates. Time since previous update 14 days

Minecrafts last update: A map, a trapdoor and more bugs. Time since previous update, 1 month

Terrarias makers are 4 guys and arent basing their ideas on mods like Minecraft is doing(see aether and piston update)

Majong are slow with updates :p and their game isnt even "released" yet.

I'd also like you to consider that Terraria has an entire less dimension - it's 2D, probably a little easier to code... I personally like both games. So please lets stay on topic so we don't ignite a flame war...

ANYHOW - back on topic, I think he's using no-clip here... I've done it before myself with some basic hacks a few versions back. It's not too difficult to pull off. But hell what do I know! He might be for some ungodly reason ^^

Will people please realize that Minecraft and Terraria are different games! Seriously, they aren't even THAT similar. I like both of them, but I wish people would stop comparing them!

Things are easier to update in Terraria, plus not having to deal with problems faced by the methodology and design choices made by Minecraft.

Also, since when did it matter that the game is in beta?
...
Okay, I'm done.

Maybe that isn't flying and its sky walking.
Whats the difference?
There is apparently going to be a sky dimension thing, so maybe if you're in that area you can walk on air.
Flying would kill the mechanics of the game because you would never die from a fall again.

modders have already done more than this.
Minecraft has about 800 modders. Mojang has 8 employees.
probably closer to 800,000 modders actually... ANYONE with knowledge of Java can mod Minecraft at this point.

Edit:

Also this, so much this!
I am SICK of people calling Terraria "2D Minecraft" anyone who's played both games can tell that they're at almost opposite ends of the same genre.

I love it how people say things like "play the game, youll know they are different" I have. And in fact I do play both, and they are extremely similar. And in fact Minecraft is trying to go in the same direction Terraria is already going in, the main problem is that terraia copied/"took inspiration" from all the mods and planned updates in Minecraft an implimented them day 1. And also Im just saying, terraria has amazing updates that massively increase the playability. Minecraft does not and thats the reason Ive stopped playing it.

Also one less dimension =/= less size. The large terraria maps have 20.1 million blocks. For minecraft youd need to have an area 400 by 400 blocks, and 128 high to be equivilent to a large Terraria map. Thats an area I bet not many peoople can take up even if they tried.

Not taking up 400x400x128? Have you not played much minecraft? I have a tunnel over 5000 blocks long and 3 blocks wide. I have a castles who's walls alone are around 200x200x30 not counting the towers that go up to sky level. And that is just the first place I built. So saying one map in Terraria is bigger than an average minecraft map is just crazy.

They are not similar more than on the very surface. Building is the core of minecraft, exploring and collecting loot is the core of Terraria. Terraria can update all day long and I can take the hour it takes to get back to having the best everything and the game is over.

Minecraft lets you set your own goals and the real fun is mostly in the building... unless you are just hoarding loot, in which case both games are exactly the same. Well, except Terraria is far easier.

And if you were thinking about saying building in Terraria is just a fun... how can it possibly be when you can't climb a mountain and look upon the whole thing?

Terraria is about fighting bosses and getting loot.

Minecraft is about building.

And less size?

There have been worlds with more than 30 million blocks. That's 30 million m^3.

See thats not really true. Minecraft WAS about building, (ie creative mode) but that isnt really supported anymore(obviously the main point of the current Minecraft still is, but read on). And with the addition of the aether, and blood moon and capture the flag, and the creative-realism scale they will be doing where you potentially need to eat, Miencraft seems to be trying to be more of an action-y game.

And my main problem is this. Minecraft is in beta. I thought...beta was a testing period, you know, where you chuck ideas at the community, see what sticks and implement and test them. they got all those points except for the community part, the community just gets what Mojang feels like we want, and that means we end up with 1 or 2 items every month, and a shit-ton of bugs that take another month to get fixed(maybe). And hell, the next updates going to have pistons and later on the aether. Both of those are just copies of mods..thats not even work on Mojangs part...it just irks me.

I don't think that's how they're doing it, though. It's frustrating in that we don't know what the final version of the game will be, we just see these bits here and there. It also seems, however, that they work on things but don't tell us (I'm sure the piston idea was tossed around before we saw the test video). Furthermore, Minecraft is Notch's creation, thus he makes the rules of what goes in and when and how, etc. We as the community don't really have any say over what should or will be in there, nor should we since lots of people have stupid ideas. I think if you watched the progress of any game it would seem ridiculous - I think the average for a bigger game is like three years, and even with a much bigger team, I'm sure a lot of things took forever to implement but we never saw that progress and were never able to ***** about it.
