Easiest way to get to the appdata folder is to open any folder and replace the location with %appdata% and hit enter.

Actually, if you go to the minecraft landing page (where the patch notes are listed) and click options (which is right above the login) under the "force update" button is a link, that takes you directly to the app folder.
Nice. I never noticed that before, thanks for pointing it out. Makes it a bit easier to explain to some of my less tech savvy friends now if they ever need the help.

Strikes me as Notch has become a attention seeking ... individual these days, cant even break wind without making a song and dance about it.

Why not just release a proper update instead of this messing about, nooo not our Notch, needs to fabricate some media attention... plus now players are happy playing a buggy release they cant complain about because its a leak, and Notch doesnt have half the planet on his heels screaming for 1.8 because they are messing about with the 'leak'.

He used to be so much more modest individual when he was showing the cute random world generator prototype he was playing about with on TIG Source way back then.
Trolling, I hope. If you had been following the events since Friday you'd realize that pretty much all of what you wrote is a complete load of bollocks. Anyway... moving swiftly on.

I don't get it.

Looking forward to the patch. I hate the emptiness of Minecraft worlds, it gives no incentive to explore.
It's a meme. It was before the inception thing. Here are some examples:

It's taking the piss out of xzibit and Pimp My Ride.

The prerelease of 1.8 is super fun, I've spent a ton of time playing it lately. With all the bugs worked out and fixed, it's going to be a really fun update.

I'm annoyed with the unstable state of SSP but I'm getting over it... Slowly.

Still, once SSP is up and running properly, I'll be happier.

Notch actually plans for Minecraft to go full-release at or shortly after Minecon, so we were supposed to get 1.8 right after PAX (it wasn't ready, hence the pre-release leak), and hopefully 1.9 (which is the other half of the features planned for 1.8) sometime in October or early November.

Of course, given this setback, I doubt we'll see full release occur on schedule.

Ive played the 1.8 "leak" and some very bad bugs. So its by no means somthing to play long term (unless you played some small company pc games that have crippling bugs in the last 10 years.)

After enjoying the new generated map. It feels a diffrent game. Untill i mined and foun a underground cave. Explored untill i came out to a underground ravine. I thaught cool.....untill i look along it......WOW massive.

Its going to be good when finished.

I found 4 underground ravines criss crossing each other. Bit late of the report (that said, the army of people hammering the notch/jeb/mojang twitter feeds means they will always have the edge).

Oh and the news link seems to be to the 1.8pr server jar. Not the file needed to run 1.8pr beta

Is anyone else confused by the lack of villagers in the villages...

And Endermen are awesome
Go play Cube Inc. Its a map that basically explains why there are only monsters sin the world of Minecraft.

Generating interest in your for-profit business venture is not being an attention seeker. It's basic business sense.

Notch is seriously one of the most epic game developers ever.

When Deus Ex was leaked: OMG We're losing money! Q_Q

When Minecraft 1.8 is leaked: Could you guys report any bugs you find?
Actually the devs of Deus Ex, Edios asked the same of those who downloaded the leaked alpha. It was the publisher that threw the ***** fit. Bit difference since the publisher has shareholders to appease.

Say what you will about Notch and his crew, but I find it pretty cool that he's so laidback about this. Need to have more developers like him.

welcome to earth!

if i was going to be just going to be as sardonic as you about it

everyone needs some love, notch is just sat behind a pc looking at 2M trolls asking for patch updates and nerd-raging over the tiniest bugs and calling him all the names under the sun
he probably has a huge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusory_superiority condition after watching drooling idiots bash their keyboards into their screens when they get emo over their world being destroyed by creepers and mind f'ed by all the attention he gets for his code from everywhere
it's enough to drive ANYONE quite mad. trust me. dude's only human.
