Having never played Minecraft before, and having just gotten a 20 dollar MS points card, I'm wondering if the 360 edition of Minecraft is worth it or not. I'm not sure if I should buy it, or save my points for the first paid for DLC for ME3 or the next DLC for Skyrim. Any opinions?

Minecraft is a great game if you're the kind of person that makes their own fun. Generally you have to give yourself a project or you will probably grow bored with it. There's also a limit to what you can do in one area. I probably spent 200 hours on a mansion and the nearby area until one day there was just nothing left for me to do so I left it behind and wandered till I found a new area, basicly starting all over to build other stuff.

Although IMO one of the things that makes minecraft such a great game is the varying mods out there and unfortnatly you cant mod the 360 version. Just on the "cant be modded" part I dont think Minecraft is worth it but this is just my personal opinion. Im sure others will disagree

I play it on 360 and I think it's great. However, if you've got a PC that can run it decently then I'd just get it on PC. If not then yeah I'd definitely recommend the 360 version

I'm just wanting to get my moneys worth. I don't see the point of paying 1600 MS points for a cut down version of the PC game, especially when I could just save my points for something else down the road.

Not at $20 no, not even the PC version.
I love the game for what it is but it does not have $20 worth of content, simply is not there, sadly it doesn't look like this will go on sale any time within the next decade so if you absolutely must have it... there really are no options.

I'd say you'd get more out of it than those DLC, then again I don't know how much content those DLCs will have.

I'd say that it is better than the PC version. While the 360 one is more limited, it is also simpler, and it doesn't have as much of the stupid, obtrusive shit that Notch and Co. decided to jam into the PC version.

My nephew has the XBox version, and him and his friends really enjoy it. Its a good game, but as far as I can see the the only advantage over the PC version is split screen multiplayer.

Still no consensus. The tutorials make it sound like the 360 version might be best for a complete new player. How much smaller are the maps in the 360 version compared to the PC version?

They aren't smaller. The maps are infinite.

Here, watch through this series. See if it looks fun.

Can you get the PC version and run the PC version? If yes, then it is better to get it on that. If you have friends that are on 360 that you are going to play with and answered no then get it on the 360. I forget the map size but since the PC version is essential infinite it is a lot smaller. Unless you are really dedicated you probably won't need all the space anyway.

You have a computer, obviously, and its a java based game so it will run on your computer (assuming that your using windows 3.1 for some god awful reason). Play it on the PC and see if you like it. Your know in less then an hour if its 'teh best game evah!' or 'OMG, pile of shiets!'.

The PC version is better if you really want to give yourself a large project. The maps are infinite and they have alot more to offer like a leveling system, supposed npcs and quests, a dream world and a nether realm. Plus the PC version has a creative mode as well as a survival. The xbox version is only survival and a lot more condensed (oh the dreaded invisible borders) but the map is still pretty expansive. I had the PC version first, but got the 360 version because it offers 4-player split-screen (which is really hard to find in games now-a-days.)

I'd say it's worth it to get in on the Xbox 360 version only if you can't run it on your PC (the PC version is infinitely better at the moment, although Notch has said that they're going to be updating the Xbox version and adding new things to it), and if you have friends on the Xbox 360 who have minecraft or are willing to get it to play with you. If you don't meet these conditions it's not really worth it.

No. The Indie Rip-offs are of better quality than the Xbox port of Minecraft as of now. Future updates might make it better but for now, the very tiny map size is a deal breaker.

Playing it on PC and having nearly infinite amount of space to play with and then comparing that to what the Arcade version gives you is just pathetic. You only get the area of your map to play with! After that, invisible walls!

4-player split screen is a blast. I think it dignifies it's own purchase with that.

The 360 maps are fairly small, but they get the job done.

All-in-all, a good version. Future patches may make it better.

I definitely think it's worth it, and it's still getting patched to bring it closer to its PC big brother.

It's incredibly addictive regardless of what platform you get it on, so you'll likely be getting your money's worth.
