Since I'm a DJ in real life I thought I'd do some DJing in Minecraft too.

Hope you enjoy the result. I didn't put much effort or thought into the beat composition, this is more just to prove to myself that it can be done at all. What I'd love to know is how to make the beats loop infinitely, I couldn't figure that out, even with the help of Minecraft's Wiki (which I find very confusing on the subject of redstone).

Feel free also to post any Minecraft video creations that you've made below, add suggestions for my DJ setup, ways I could streamline it, discuss how awesome my DJ decks look, whatever.

Wow that is pretty complex. I too looked at the wiki article on redstone and went "....?!". Do you have a circuit diagram for this? Would you mind sharing? I don't make youtube videos or anything but I always learn better by reverse engineering what other people have made and Frankenstein-ing it with other things.

It's how I learnt a few script languages after all

I don't have a circuit diagram.

Basically, it's a really, really simple circuit though. You just chain up a repeater set to whatever delay time you want, then your note blocks, then more repeaters and so on. The thing to remember is that redstone current passes through repeaters but it terminates at a note block so you have to make the redstone leading to the note blocks branch off from the main redstone paths. If you follow those principles it's quite easy to make a circuit like this. No knowledge of digital electronics is required.

Ah okay thanks. I'm just going to have to play with redsand and see what happens. How long did it take you to make this? Can you connect a circuit back on itself? e.g Switch runs to in a loop back to switch with branches off to the noteblocks. So the switch rather than relaying 1/0 input is acting light a lightswitch and connecting/breaking the circuit?

You realise your next goal is going to have to be to actually make a beatbox mix in minecraft.

Wow. That's brilliant!

Probably the coolest thing yet, I've seen of what other people have done in Minecraft.

I'm impressed, very nicely done; i will try my best into making a minecraft beat myself!
If i succeed, i will certainly share it with you

Pretty sweet! Good job. Now you just have to upscale it like this one:

Also, apparently there's a new redstone block. Hmm. I'll have to see what I've missed out on lately.

Including mining/crafting all the material, and digging out all the tunnels, maybe about six hours. However the environ that it's all in took me a lot longer, stuff like indoor trees was a real pain to get going, and I actually dug the initial tunnel about a month ago. Elsewhere in that system is an indoor farm too. I try to do everything indoors so I can work regardless of time and without creeper interference. In my Minecraft map my goal is to get every single tunnel connected to every single other tunnel so I can traverse the entire map in complete safety without ever going outdoors if I want to.

Actually I know for sure something like this is possible as I've seen other people's videos and there's infinite music loops there. I don't really understand it conceptually though, my grasp on digital electronics is tenuous at best.

I'd love to do a drum sequencer like I saw some guy did in a video, but I can't get my head around what the circuitry required would look like in Minecraft. Ironically, it would be easier for me to make one in real life.

The new block is the repeater, you can see them in my video, they're the grey lever things on the floor. They basically function as a delay, with four different settings - signal goes in one end and comes out the other at a specified time, that you set by right-clicking the lever on top. Very useful for making beats and music because they control note durations - apparently you can do it without repeaters too, but I'm not sure how, I think it involves a fair few blocks, repeaters just are supposed to make that job a lot easier.

Thanks for the comments, folks.

Well that was pretty awesome. I only wish I had some sort of radar in Minecraft so I could find some friggin redstone (haven't been playing for long).

Nice job. Now to make it so that it doesn't fade as the chain gets farther away and to loop it properly.

I just got Minecraft today, so hopefully I'll be able to do something as cool as this.

It's easy to find, you just have to dig very deep. At a certain depth it's nearly as common as coal.

The only way to stop the fading would be to move the circuits closer to the switch, and due to the size of the circuits that's not really possible. Some fading is inevitable. As for looping it properly, god knows, but there's a way. I'll let someone else figure that out though.

I'm impressed. Not only did it work but it sounded pretty decent aswell! If i can get my head around how those damn redstone connections i'm gonna try something like this too.
