Minecraft multiplayer will kick so much ass. It's going to be like a MMO building city survival sim. Building siege towers, attacking other clans cities.. going to kick ass hard.
Dont praise too early :p you never know how it actually will turn out.

Starting his own company, making more games? Awesome! This is great news. One can hope that someday his company will team up with Valve to make something.

Good to see his fame hasnt swelled his head....

Keep it up and maybe Notch can be the "What you want to be" instead of "Sell your soul to Kotick"

Ugh, I'd hate to be in Notch's position. After Minecraft, imagine the kind of expectations the media (and all his fans, of course) will have? I hope for his sake Minecraft wasn't just another example of a very lucky guy falling onto a pile of money.

Now that's ambition. If I was raking in as much money as Notch, I'd retire tomorrow.
I agree completely.

His ambitions for Minecraft alone will keep me interested in him. I'll gladly follow any of his future projects and hope his motivations remain with him as long as possible.
I will also be following him and his company.

Minecraft is brilliant, and I am looking forward to future updates.

It says about monster towns, it should also have towns with normal people, like the base char but a little different.

Capture the flag? WTF?

How could that work? You just put it burried on a secret mine and the odds that someone will find it are really small.
Maybe put it on an re-spawning dungeon.
It'll likely be found in a small Obsidian room that can only be accessed by a doorway or two. It's not hard to imagine at all, actually.
OOOOOOOR... it could be like some sort of build your own defense kind of thing where you have a limited amount of time and resources to make an adequate defense around your flag and craft weapons and armor. The amount of time and resources is determined by the server host.
But couldn't you just dig through all the defenses?

Only in the Build phase. After that, all picks, shovels, and such are removed from your inventory. That doesn't mean that there aren't any hidden in the map though. I guess we could take advantage of Minecraft's random land generator to kind of randomly place them throughout the level.

Heh... have you not had a look at Notch's past work site? I think there's a link to it from the main Minecraft page. He's done quite a few good games in the past. I'm particularly taken with Break The Tower... dude has an opportunity now to be quite a power in the game world I'd say. Or at least a known personality for a reasonable time into the future...

right now notch has more followers than most AAA companies, because he came out with a simple, fun game that he made almost entirely WITHOUT GLITCHES. WOOO NOTCH!

Nothing wrong with being energetic and positive about future possibilities. And I don't think that after all this time, money and dedication he'll risk all that by biting off more than he could chew.

I for my part would be tremendously happy to see Mojang (or whatever they call it in the future) to strive and prosper for a long time to come.

some kind of overarching narrative to the game to drive the player forward and provide a sense of direction."
Do not want.

He also mentioned other new features such as monster towns and alchemy.
Awesome :D

Seriously, add more crafting items too, please!

I want really advanced stuff. I want marble. I want more precious metals. I want to be able to build a table!

I imagine quests in a minecraft world would be like:
"Get to the other side of the ocean by building a bridge."

Or:
"Destroy that mountain, it is ruining my view."

I can imagine snowball fights, but instead of snowballs, they fire pigs at eachother with cannons.

The news about him working on other games is interesting, especially in light of the recent attacks on him. The attacks were because of a lack of updates and so on, and if the guy is already thinking about moving on to other products, I can see concerns about him not supporting this product, for all the reasons he was being defended in response to those attacks (being only one guy, etc...). I'm wondering if those hackers knew things ahead of this annoucement (which isn't all that recent by now, I could have the timing wrong).

I'll also be honest in saying that the concerns about him leaving this game to rot, despite the innovation, and going on to something that interests him more are not totally unfounded. Independant and freelance developers are infamous for that kind of thing. If you think about it there have been tons of unfinished, but very popular works throughout the years that died for exactly that reason. If Notch is already rich to boot, one can also become concerned that he has little motivation compared to before he made his money.

No reason to be concerned yet, but I think everyone is dreading him putting something else out and saying "well I don't plan to abandon Minecraft, so don't worry, but I'm really interested in this right now..." or perhaps not even actually making another product and saying "I need a break, don't worry I will return to Minecraft but I'm really burned out and...".

One of the few actual advantages that a more corperate approach to gaming has over indies is someone being there to crack the whip and keep them focused (so to speak). I think a lot of people who praise the indie community for it's freedom and creativity (which are good things) do tend to forget about the down side, and how many great ideas have died due to lack of focus, motivation, or developers just deciding they really want to do something else without having the structure of "it's a job" preventing them from just doing whatever whim strikes them.

That said, I really should get around to trying Minecraft to be honest, but I've been busy with other things. It's taken a while, but it's beginning to interest me a bit more than it used to. Kind of funny how "Zombie Pigs" will get my attention, but a story about someone building Rapture, or burning down their creation with the way fire has been coded won't....
