Minecraft file size

I am just curious. Ive been building on one world in Minecraft for two months now. Its nothing spectacular yet because I am just laying foundations, but I have seen my save file increase from 2mb to 12mb in that time, and it seems the bigger the file gets the more prone the game becomes to randomly crashing after an hour or two long play session (I can deal with it, not really looking for tech support.)

TLR Sate my curiosity, How big is your largest minecraft save file?

I think I have a 23mb file that I did nothing but explore on.
