Maybe some type of block that naturally floats about, like a kind of cloud that you can build on. It'd allow you to build floating islands, airships, and whatnot, that would actually float around the world. Then perhaps some type of propeller type craftable item so you can actually steer your skyland/airship/enterprise/whatever the eff you've made, around.
Also, like has been said, some changes so that iron ore will spawn together in a higher concentration, or, at the very least, a new item that can point you towards iron or diamond or whatever. Maybe something like the compass, except instead of redstone you use whatever element you're trying to make it find.
Personally, I'd really love to see some NPC's running about. Like, for instance, you spend a day or more making a nice little town, and you get to attract people to it, who will then interact with one another, having kids and whatnot. Town gets populated, and you actually have a use for that giant castle of yours, as you are now king/queen. I'd love to see it get real crazy though, with you being able to order people about to become miners, guards, item crafters, or something like that. Barring that, maybe they just do it on their own without you getting to decide who does what.
Even better, and I know that this is probably kind of impossible, make it possible to mix the game with something like Sim City or Civilization, where you can make blueprints and build specialized buildings, like colloseums or stables, and be able to instruct your minions to make them for you if need be. Multiplayer games become epic in scale, as each person gathers up and builds their own cities, raises armies, and goes into massive scale combat with one another.
Not going to happen, but I can dream.

In all fairness, this thing is an alpha. It's not ready for release, it's not even a beta yet. The creator wasn't expecting a million people to take him up on the "half off if you buy early" deal.
You can already build yourself a roller coaster, a calculator, various landmarks, and blow stuff up with TNT. Probably stuff like mechanics, boats, cannons, and multiplayer wars will be added.

Boats are already ingame, and with some creative use of water and redstone you can make cannons which throw TNT hundreds of blocks.Veylon said:

As for ideas, I've got nothing original to say, as a lot of stuff I'd want has already been mentioned on the minecraft forums.

i have been thinking of ideas for minecraft for quite some time and came up with a few good ones. i do not know if there is a way to take the ideas directly to notch so im both asking you for a way to do that and telling you about my ideas.

one thing that always bothers me is that even though minecraft has an infinite span pf possibilities of what you can build, it still doesnt have enough. i mean you can build nearly what ever you want and no two worlds are the same but when it comes to tools and materials it is the same for everyone and it is just not enough possibilities. i really would like to have an advanced workbench with for example a 6x6 grid where i could somehow build tools or shapes of block that would be unique to my save. like it was not pre made by notch but made itself after your own mind out of blocks for example 1 sixt of a normal sized block (but preferably smaller.
and even a chisel so that you could actually chop out your own unique statue from a rock or wood block.
you probably know the world is 16-bit so like if you could cut out one bit at a time to shape something that would be awesome cause then you could customise your house and items so much more.
and even some very basic elements are missing from the game, like oil, plastic, lamps that can turn on and off, paint and probably more.
i also have ideas for what all of those can be used for
1: oil could for example be used for both making plastic and paint. lets say you mix oil and a red mushroom and get red paint.
2: Plastic would be a great addition and would probably open up a lot of possibilities for what we could craft and if we also got the advanced craftingbench i would be completely satisfied. we could make scuba gear, cars and actual trains not just carts, maybe even use the plastic for a hot air balloon.
all of this would of course make the game a lot more complicated but also alot more fun and a lot more customisable for each player.

i would also like my buildings to remain standing but having an earthquake once in a while and my house falling apart would really make the entire game alot more challenging so i suppose if he made that he would also add an option to turn it on and off just like the mobs.
