Minecraft problem

Said problem is coal. More specifically, why the fuck can't I find any? I've started about five different worlds now, and only one of them had anything vaguely resembling coal. And I don't think that was coal, because I couldn't make a torch with it.

Help!

Mine, or search in caves. What you found is a flint, used for making fire and arrows.

Find a cave, and start digging.

Most useful material are very deep underground, especially near lava caves.

Find any large rock face, make a wooden pick, then a stone pick, and start strip mining the shit out of that rock face. It's relatively easy to find it on any major cliff face or in any cave.

Maybe on your first playthrough you should set it to Peaceful so you can learn whats what and where shit is.

They really should let you start the game with a few torches, if there isn't a nearby cave formation that means you have to make a tunnel down to find coal. If you don't have any torches then that tunnel down isn't going to be very expansive.

And lord help you if you can't get any coal before nightfall.

I feel you man, sometimes I'll start and delete twenty or thirty worlds just trying to find one that I like AND that has the resources I need, specifically, enough coal to get me started.

I guess you'll either have to dig, get lucky, or stay patient.

really? never had any problem with coal, i always have torches before the first night
- getting iron, gold and all higher lvl ores is way harder (at least for me)

How are you trying to make torches? You're using sticks rather than planks, right?

Hit trees till you can make 64 tiles of ladders. Then, dig straight down. Build you ladder back up. Then, go stand on a tile next to it, and dig down there as well.

Repeat until you split the earth in two. That or find a cave or a moderately large cliffy area.

Well, it's obvious that you dig down AFTER you find the coal. But you need those torches to dig down.

Move away from your spawn point. You are more likely to spawn near the water, and coal is found in mountains and caves, not beaches. You shouldn't have to dig down if you go looking for exposed rock.

your not the only one that has had this problem it took me a fue days to figger out each bock but yea in the caves and just keep digging down
