Before I get too deep into this, let me give a simple definition of the term:
"Minecraft Syndrome" is a term coined by some random jackass that describes the phenomenon where a person does not play a wildly popular game because it's so hyped and popular, but once the popularity and buzz starts to die down, said person suddenly feels a desire to jump into said game(s) and see whether it was really worth all of the hullabaloo. An outsider's perspective if you will, excavating the remains of a civilization long past.
I first noticed this with Minecraft, where once the game exited its Beta phase and was released, I finally felt a genuine desire to give it a try. I'm still debating whether or not I should do that or buy a bunch of games during the Steam Summer Sale, but the interest is there, and it's because not every single person keeps going on about it anymore.
For a more recent example, I've become noticeably more interested in getting into the Mass Effect series now that the raging inferno of the ME3 endings reaction has died down and the general series has pretty much finished. Benefits to this that I can see are complete Wiki documentation, optimal paths in the games being plotted out already and the advantage of not having lazy writers and/or EA piss on the emotions I had spent the last 5 years investing into the series's universe.
Anyone else got any examples of games they became interested in after the actual hype went away?
