Never played minecraft... but...

if you have ever found yourself deep underground with no clear exit and a dwindling supply of torches you'll know just how scary that can be.
...at that point, are you likely to be eaten by a Grue?

I just made exactly that rather hasty addition to my tower walls. As far as I know it's only vertical walls they can climb.

For now at least *shudder*

It's surely only a matter of time before Notch introduces the ultimate horror... imagine if there was a monster that could dig...
Thankfully I already have this in place for aesthetic reasoning :p

Oh god.......no....no no no no no. Notch, please don't read this.

That would be.... Fucking terrifying. Remember how easy Super Meat Boy became when you could dig. This would be scary as fuck.

Going into the basement of your house only to come back up to a creeper waiting for you
That totally happened to me.
I didn't know at the time that MOBs spawned in darkness. So I built a second floor in my house with no windows and left it alone for a while because I didn't have a need for it yet. So when I got some chests and stuff ready, I went up the ladder and turn to see a creeper RIGHT in my face already hissing it's way to explosion-town. I jumped out of my freaking skin. And my home suddenly lost it's second floor.

Needless to say, I'm now very liberal with torches.

Several times since that update I've had spiders try to jump on my head without warning, and you know what I've discovered? Even more terrifying than ninja spiders is ninja spiders on fire. Sure they're a little easier to kill having taken some damage already, but the psychological effect more than makes up for it.

My scariest moment was when I was returning to my underground hide-out (built into the side of a mountain) only to find a creeper and a horde of spiders at my door to greet me.

Turns out that I forgot to completely light up a tiny little corner of my base, so the spiders and creeper just spawned right in like they owned the place.

I died like 3 times clearing out those bastards.

At least it taught me the lesson of making sure your base is properly illuminated.

I've had that happen to me earlier...stupid spiders. I've added a roof to my house to keep them from climbing in. I've been adding 2 block wide areas of <a href=http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Netherrack>netherrack (which I light on fire) around my house. Also, if you have the resources, build your houses out of obsidian. Creepers can't blow that up.

HAHAHAHAHA.
I'd like to see them get up my wall. It's almost at the top of the skyline.
THEY WON'T EVEN SEE ME!

My first base was just dug into the side of a small hill. I was spending a night hollowing out more of the hill and lost track of how close I was to the edge. Punched through the ceiling and Hissssssss WHAM Creeper-to-the-face.

Course, he hollowed out the rest of the hill waaaaaaaaaaaay quicker than I ever could have

First time I ever played it, had no idea about crafting and how it worked. I cut down enough wood to make a 3x3x3 box with a 2x1x2 hole for me to stand in, and boarded it up. I waited until I couldn't hear the noises anymore but I kept hearing them. I broke open the top, and saw that it was sunlight outside. As I was about to burst open the wall and go make use of my second day, a spider jumped in the top and killed me ;_;

I was exploring a new cave when a spider dropped on my head. I freaked out. All I was doing was looking for the new ore. I had all my anti lava stuff so I had no sword :(

My first night in Minecraft. I decided just to hide under the floor. Above me I could hear all the worst sounds in the world, from the clunking of a skeleton to the gentle hissing of a creeper. Suddenly there was silence. I dug my way back up to find a menagerie of monsters forming a ring around me. A couple of explosions later, and I experienced my first death in Minecraft.

I was just building an underground canal through my main island, and I built a tunnel up after an hour or so of digging and was glad to see the sunny landscape, so I looked around for a bit. Some music started playing so I turned the volume up. I could see my fortress in the distance, and my lighthouse farther back, and the tower from- SSS BOOM.

Luckily, I died close to my spawn point so I got everything back

I was down in a cave exploring, then decided to go back up. My path up was stair-like, and took a right turn, well, right before I got there, a creeper was coming down and jumped right in front of me. I swear it almost gave me a heart attack.

But as a side note, I'm worried about Minecraft and think I might quit playing before it is actually finished. This last updated seemed to add more for creativity (note blocks, dye, squid to get items for dye, different sheep for colored wool) than actual playability (dispensers, cake, change to the spiders, and that is about it). The creative stuff is cool, but I have much more fun actually playing the game (mining, building a base, surviving), but it looks like it is turning more creative.

I was building a house with netherrack, I didn't realise it was flammable. Flint and steel with douchebag players is irritating in the extreme

He wants to get all the blocks in, because he's adding a creative mode inside the client itself. Meaning, we can make castles, floating islands, etc. with infinite blocks within the client itself and aren't limited by the Minecraft Classic block types.

Don't worry, he's adding a dungeon mode (definitely) and Zombie Survival mode as well (we think).

I saw that yesterday! Imagine my surprise when the spider I just punted off of my roof started levitating up my glass kingdom!
