Is it just me or lately the mods that have come out for Minecraft are that much better then the actual updates thats its better to just stick without the updates? Mainly because of how much they fuck up mod compatibility. Getting a group of mods working together is like duct taping a bunch a bunch of car parts together and hope it doesn't blow up.

Not to go on and bash Notch but I've gotta admit I lost all respect in between unkept promises (NPC villagers, Mod API!?!?!, etc) and the millions his made vs that amount of people his hired to update the game. I still like Minecraft alot with mods, but it just seems like it has alot of wasted potential atm. I dunno, what do you guys think?

Also shameless self promotion of a modding video I made a couple of months back(Its not bad, trust me :D ):

To embed a video you type "youtube=youtubelink". Paste your youtube link then delete the part before the = however use [ and ] instead of ". That's how I do it anyway.

OT: Ever since the update that added endermen I have been unable to run minecraft. The reason the other updates were so big is that he hadn't finished the game. He has now finished it I think and so the updates probably won't be as large or frequent.
Actully I think Notch moved onto another game and left others to update minecraft. Not sure about this though.

The problem is that Notch is like Molyneux. He promised much more about Minecraft than he could keep, and even though the game is just fine it makes gamers long for something more.

I think Mojang really need to stop adding new stuff to minecraft with a feature freeze, make the code stable, and put in a modding API like they said they would. Any future updates shouldd be only security fixes.

I'd much prefer this than getting buggy updates every other week, and it would stop lots of mods breaking.

Also, minecraft mods could really use some form of packaging system or something, because the installation process absolutely sucks. If I knew more about Java/how the mods work then I'd write it myself.

Mojang is lost in the explosion of ideas, their own and those from fans, so they are patching in stuff they themselves don't really know how it will turn out, meanwhile fans demand more and more... the end product are these latest builds that became horribly boring and confused.

What they really need to do is step back and realize they can't possibly compete on content with thousands of modders out there, but what they can do better then all others is perfecting the platform, making it stable, easy to mold and fully embrace mods.
I would go for a full rated mod nexus feature accessible from within the game and loadable on the fly with creation tools for everyone to try their own thing.
Minecraft has a better chance at pushing mods then any other game, they succeeded with freedom and that is how they should move forward.

I've never modded Minecraft. In fact, I've never modded any games I have, (not counting the modded guns that were given to me in Borderlands). I like the play games the way the developer intended them to be played.

But I also like Mr.K's take on it. I think the nature of Minecraft specifically calls for it to be completely open to player modding.

Really? There's some mods which just simply improve the performance of the game by alot(OptiFine comes to mind). And yeah I kinda agree with you there, I'm really not a fan of "nuke mods", "call of duty mods" and just silly stuff like that, it just completely ruins the feel of MineCraft for me. I'm fine with mods which add content but still stick to the overall aesthetic of the game, like SimpleOres or Mo'Creatures.
