Minecraft- World Map

So we all know that Minecraft maps are MASSIVE, and whilst you can create smaller maps of areas, I was just wondering if anyone knew of a mod that enabled you to see a larger area?

This is mainly because a lot of the buildings on the server I'm on are spaced out, and it would be pretty awesome to see them all on one map. Also it's just fun and makes the world seem more real....yay!

There is cartograph, but that requires you to be out of the server and use the map file itself. Makes for some pretty awesome pictures though.

I've seen other programs that add a minimap to the top corner of your game, but I couldn't tell you what it is or how you'd go about getting it.

There's also a way to export a shot of the map (complete with player locations) onto a webpage.
Regrettably, I have no idea what program it was or where to look for it.
