I just purchased minecraft, and downloaded a copy onto my computer (a brand new MacBook Pro) The problem is that every time I play it, after a few minutes, the game crashes. Middle of the night, running from a zombie, crash, expanding my hole in the ground, crash, digging looking for coal so I can see better in the dark, bye bye, turning around, no can do.

has anyone else had these problems, I appreciate that Minecraft is still in beta, and as such, there are bound to be bugs and glitches, but this amount of crashes are simply ridiculous. Any advice?

It may not work as well on Mac, I can't really be sure.
Since Minecraft is built on Java, this is definitely not the case. It should work just as well on PC as it does on Mac or even Linux based systems.

I would try redownloading Java [http://www.java.com/en/]. If that doesn't work, delete Minecraft and download it again.

Otherwise, something else on your computer might be interfering. Are other programs running slowly? I don't know much about Macs, so if the above didn't work, I won't be able to help much. You did install the Mac one, right? [http://minecraft.net/download.jsp].

I play Minecraft on my MacBook Pro too, and although I've faced very consistent crashing at points in the past as well, it's always been fixed pretty quickly by a patch.

That's my advice. Be patient, find another game for a couple of days and then see if a patch fixes your problem. If it doesn't, hit up the Minecraft forums.

Hm. I dunno how Mac's OS architecture works, but I had a crashing problem on Win7 x64. Crashed all the bloody time, more frequently when exploring. Turned out, I had 32 bit java, instead of 64 (heh, I didn't even know there *was* a 64 bit java :p). It may be a similar problem for you, in that you might be using the wrong type of java for your compy.

Well... not definitely. Each distribution of Java is bound to have its own bugs.

Anyway, does it happen in the browser version as well? If not, that could be a workaround or a clue about the nature of its broken-ness.

My friend had this because of a bug with Java.
Do you have the latest version of Java?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java?
