Minions - Despicable, Indeed

And then I stopped reading the review.

Maybe this movie is bad. I don't doubt it. But it was immediate that I could tell that this writer can't relate to me, and I think I can relate to the general moviegoer more than he after this. There's only two interpretations of the quote:

1: "I legitimately didn't find the minions' antics funny in the first movie."
2: "I did find them funny, but I'm lying now because it will make stronger my rant that a movie based on minions is a bad idea."

I imagine option 2 is the unfortunate truth, because the minions were not such a large part of the first movie, the parts that involved them were clever (the idea that Gru would know their individual names, their willingness to be test subjects, etc.), and therefore almost everyone in the world found them funny. Sometimes, when you are the only person not laughing at a joke, you need to wonder "is is the joke, or is it me?"

You want to make assumptions? It's really easy. You're just writing this because you're butt hurt over him criticising your favourite movie. See easy, and annoying.

Also saying the movie could be definitely bad but there is something wrong with Marter if he doesn't find it funny is pretty contradictory. "Almost everyone in the world found them funny" is a complete load. The Simpsons and Futurama were actual great comedy's and even then I couldn't prove they entertained more than half the world. At least he tried to explain why they weren't funny.

I'm really curious about this movie but I felt like this review was more of a preaching-to-the-choir kinda thing. I don't think this movie is going to be good because no sequel based around the comedic foil is ever good in general but I was hoping for more nuance than what equated to, "I don't like Minions, this is obviously just a movie made to sell stuff". Granted, this IS a movie that seems to have been made specifically to sell stuff (we have fucking Minion Paper Towels and our last amazon order came in a fucking Minions box)

I never liked this franchise so I can't help but nod along, but I feel it will make money anyway so my ire will influence nothing.

And yes I did just imply that I did not like Despicable Me 1 & 2. I think they're weak films.

I despise these little yellow c****. They are hideous. With their pill bodies and their gross old man hair. They are up their with the Dr Who fan base levels of cringe.

I saw the trailer, and although the humour isn't for me. I don't see why you guys are kicking off about this film specifically, there are loads of crap animated children's films that come out every year, why has this one pissed you off so much?

Well, after seeing this review and the one for Max, I can officially say, Matt HATES kids movies. Of course, I probably would too, but man does he get a hate boner for anything meant for kids.

No, it's not a good look to spew overly dramatic hipitibob. I mean, I don't mind at all when a critic says it's stupid or just plain shit (along with the reasons why), but to go out and say it's the death to all things good (for example) is just silly.

Well I don't know anything about hipitibobs, but I personally enjoyed the review. I can't see where he said the movie was the death of all good things, but if he thinks that Minions gives animated films a bad name I don't see why he shouldn't say it.

There is no proof of that extreme you see, especially since people have been thinking like that since the beginning of animation I bet. I don't think he literally meant that Minions is the reason people dismiss animated films, but that films like Minions are the reason. There has certainly been low substance animation dating back to the roots of the industry, in fact a substantial amount of animation consists of tripe to keep young children entertained. Then when those children grow up they look back on what animation they watched and conclude that animation is tripe for children and write it off.

Although, I don't really understand the difference between saying "Minions is the reason people dismiss animated films" and "Minions give animated films a bad name." If something has a bad name people would dismiss it, and if Minions gives animated films a bad name then Minions would be the reason that people would dismiss animation.

I never liked the first two Despicable Me films. I just thought they were so...generic, if that makes any sense. Plus, I don't think Steve Carell is funny.

And yes, those little yellow Corn Pops minions annoy me to no end. They remind me way too much of the Rabbids from Rayman, another group of beings that I can't stand.

Fair enough. There is a difference though, one being that; is it really why some people dismiss animated films? It's a hell of an assumption.

Saying it gives animated movies a bad name can be taken in different ways, and here Marter would be specifically talking about the obvious cash-in spin-offs. And even if you take it so broadly, we know it's for dramatic emphasis because the good will always be good and the bad will always be bad. The great we will praise, the shit we'll want to erase

actually only one word change. what seems to be underwear or underway in english is clearly "tes doigts de pieds" (trsanslation : your foot fingers. toes can also be called foot fingers in french)

the 3/4 of the song seems to be compose of french words.

Actually, I can sound even more arrogant. It's a skill of mine. Observe:
You should have written "comedies" instead of "comedy's".
"Butt hurt" should have been written either as one word (not that that's a real word, but it exists in gamer slang) or should have a hyphen.

The implication of my line "maybe this movie is bad. I don't doubt it" is that I haven't seen it. I also didn't see Despicable Me 2. There are mixed reviews out there for this movie, and often movies that are dumb but funny get "misunderstood" by critics who just don't want to have a good time. One example of this was Sharknado, which was both stupid and amusing. The best description of that that I heard was "it knows what it is." But sometimes, critics want these dumb movies to be something else.

The line I quoted in the review implied to me that this is one of those critics. And as such, he's lost credibility, in much the same way that poor grammar makes you lose credibility as an online debater. It was my explanation as to why I wouldn't add his reviews to those that I read for movie expectations (unless this is an exception). My line regarding the "whole world" was hyperbole, which is a technique many writers use to illustrate absurdity in a differing opinion. I would also say the whole world likes futurama in the same way, knowing that it is far from the truth, and depending on the audience.

Furthermore, I handy click on my Escapist profile would reveal to you that I list "arrogance" as one of my interests. It's been that way since the beginning. I hope my response was as high and mighty as you'd hope. We'll see if your next one meets my own standards, should you decide to write one.

When I saw the title of this review on the site I thought, "I should avoid this until I've seen the movie for myself."

Looks like I was right. More power to the reviewer for being definitive; he didn't like the characters, the idea, or the movie itself, and made no bones about it. Agree or disagree, at least you know where he stands.

I really enjoyed the movie. I laughed all the way through, and had a good time. I was initially leary of the Minions having an entire movie, but they kept the action going, the jokes were fun and the slapstick was hilarious. I did kinda go in with lowered expectations, but in a sense of 'Just see it as entertainment'. I mean, it's a movie about little yellow dudes with funny voices, who make fart jokes, slap each other around and get into wacky adventures - not exactly high art, is it.

Anyway, my two cents.
