Before i start i want to say that i am kinda new to these forums and this is my first new topic, so if anyone has any constructive criticism please do so as a private message. thank you.

Having said that on to the point of this thread.
I was talking with a friend the other day about minor and often over looked details in games that you have noticed, that really get you hooked on the game.

An example, when i first played Perfect Dark on the nintendo64, i fell in love with the sound of the foot steps. It was the first time i had ever really heard them in a game and as such often found myself walking aroung the training area just to hear them.

So i was wondering, what small detail/s have you found in a game that really made you want to play it?

In Crash Bandicoot 3 in the night motorcycle level (i forgot whats it called) the head light actually moves with the front wheel.

For the Ps1 it was amazing.

welcome to The Escapist! I'm sure someone will bring up the official welcome message soon enough... I would do, but can't be bothered right now :p

erm... small detail in a game that hooked me? well, the really realistic glass-physics in Resistance: FoM fascinated me... I mean, everytime you broke it, it would break in a different manner depending on where you shot it, like real glass and everything! Haven't seen a game replicate glass that well since... then again, I haven't played Resistance 2...

Welcome aboard. Interesting question too. So, I think Mario Golf on the N64 is just full of little details that make the game fun and hilarious. I'm talking about:

-being able to shout 'hurry up' to stragglers
-DK and Bowser swing their clubs with one hand
-silly effects for great shots (i.e. Yoshi's ball leaves a rainbow stream)
-'Nice On!' 'Great!' etc.

The only real problem with Mario Golf was the complete lack of balance between all characters.

Alrighty, now that formalities are out of the way, I have to say that when I found out you can pick up stuff in Half Life 2.

When I first noticed in GTA Vice City that if you shoot a car's wheel the tyre goes flat and affects how it drives. To this day in GTA/Saints Row, I can kill time by just shooting out the tyres of passing cars and watching the panicked drivers speed off unsteadily, plowing into walls.

In Silent Hill 2, the fact that there's like 20 different footstep sounds for a single character.

Go on the highway in Crackdown and do it. The cars literally take off. It's so much fun.

In Uncharted: Drakes fortune, the ammo indicator went down with every bullet fired, not just when you reload. I love that. I think lost planet had it to.

The fact that in Mercenaries, you can snipe the pilot of a helicopter to make it crash. It brings me endless enjoyment to destroy a helicopter with one bullet.

In the latest PS2 DBZ games the clothes of the characters began getting slashed and ripped after some fight, and the characters got dirt and bruises on their body.

Don't know if it's really a small detail, I find it massive but then I know people who didn't. The first time I played call of duty (the original) on my brother in laws pc, just because of the fact you could look down the iron sights of every weapon I was hooked. It was the first game I'd ever played where ironsights were used and it wowed me. Instantly bought the game, the same day :D

I just get hooked, like in facination, by the ideas surrounding Dead Space. Namely the alien lifeform itself. You know a dormant micro organism that infects and takes over the body of the dead and mutates and reshapes it into a an entirely new senient creature that is already driven by instinct.
I find myself thinking about it a lot.
