So, according to a tweet by Ben Cousins, former executive producer at DICE, Mirror's Edge 2 is indeed still in production.

Eurogamer have tried to reach EA, but they have declined to comment. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-21-dice-we-dont-want-to-become-a-battlefield-factory

Thoughts about this? Mine are pretty much "Fuck Yeah!" I love the first Mirror's Edge a lot, and am actually really excited about this. Hopefully it'll be longer and any combat they decide to keep will be less awkward.

The thing that I felt would have made Mirror's Edge really better was a "free roam mode" or, dunno, maybe "delivery mode" or something - just give the players the ability to freely hop around the rooftops. Maybe making the odd delivery when they feel like it or just admire the scenery. It would have made me so happy. I was still extremely happy with Mirror's Edge itself, though. Really happy. I love it, in fact. I'm also extremely pleased with having a sequel...well, maybe I'll need to wait for the actual release, but I don't think it can be that bad. I hope I don't regret those words.

Hope it's true. I honestly thought the sequel was dead and buried.

^^ Agree with DoPo to an extent. I think i'd like something like that as separate to the main story line.

Yes!
I hope it is longer and the writing is less cringe worthy. More paths to get to your objective would be great too. I'm not too fussed as to whether they improve he combat or not since disarmed worked fine for me and you don't do much of it anyway.

However I am a bit worried that since the first wasn't that popular they will try and go for broader appeal and make it less focused on the running and more on combat with running on the side.

I liked the story in 1. OK, it wasn't any sort of masterpiece, not even close, but it was simple enough to carry the game through to the end. Was it cliche? Totally. Did it serve the job? I believe it did. I'm not too worried on that account.

Also, on slightly related to Mirror's Edge note, I just remembered that last month I saw a game which gave me really strong Mirror's Edge vibe. It looks like Mirror's Edge meets Tron and it's called Fotonica, check this video

Looks amazing, IMO. And I had forgotten about it, until now. A shame really. You can play the demo here [http://www.kongregate.com/games/SantaRagione/fotonica], that's what I'll do now. You'll need Unity Webplayer (but you'll get a prompt on the site, if you don't have it).

EDIT: Played the demo to get a feel for it. Not really Mirror's Edge but it looks similar on the outside. Still fun, if you ask me. I'm not really sure I'll get the full version or at least not soon.

Its' not so much the overall story that bothered me. As you say its cliche but its does it's job. Its more the dialogue and characters that were getting on my nerves (which too me is more important that the overreaching story anyway). I wanted to murder Jacknife the instant he opened his mouth and not in a love to hate way.

Thanks! I didn't know about that game. I'll check it out.
