Yesterday I was in the local Chinese restaurant with my relatives. The restaurant had alter the appetizers from having a mix selection to choosing which one you want.
We notice a new appetizer which is called "Bang Bang Chicken" (yes really) so my uncle order that to see and try it. Before they arrive (the restaurant was busy) we were discussing what it is and what it look like. I was guessing it was some kind of a super spicy chicken shape like a ball for some reason.
The appetizers had arrives and it turn out that the Bang Bang Chicken is just strips of cold cooked chicken with a sauce on it with lettures underneath it. So it pretty much look like something that goes in a taco. That not the most leading part, it turn out that the sause is peanut butter. It wasn't spicy peanut butter (if that even possisble). I admit if the term Bang Bang mean suprise then it certain caught me off guarded. Not the less the bang Bang Chicken is the most misleading food I ever had (my uncle give us a piece which it taste ok but it's so misleading).

So I was wondering have you order or heard about a food which its name or its description have give you a impression on what the food it and once it arrive, it is competely different (apperance or taste) to what you had expecting to the point it was misleading?

My mom ordered kidney pie in England. Being Swedish, she knew not the meaning of the word "kidney". She thought it would be a pie of tastebuddy delight.

Long story short, it wasn't.

I once tried a pizza burger. It was somewhat less than the most awesome food I've ever eaten.

Also known as Satay Chicken, which I hate.

When I was staying with my family in Hong Kong I ordered a salad, I was eating it when I realised there was small pieces of something in it. I initially thought it was a crouton but it turned out to be bacon. I don't eat pork and I specifically told them I don't when ordering, so yeah that was a bit misleading.

The only thing that comes to mind is a Cheese Salad baguette I had one time. I read the ingredients... It didn't mention red opnion. Red Onion makes me puke... Not pretty...

Sticky Date pudding doesn't sound as awesomely delicious as it really is, I missed a whole childhood of eating it because I thought it sounded gross.

It blew my five-year-old mind to find out what a pu pu platter was. Turns out, at the Four Seasons Chinese restaurant in Greenwood (and damn you Wong family for selling the location and closing it down in 2003), it was the most kid-friendly item on the menu. Lots of spiffy appetizers and fried things...and FIRE! Any restaurant experience is improved by having a small fire on the table. A large fire, that's a different matter.
