Having just watched the below video and laughed repeatedly..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsmtzERXg9k
I suddenly became a sourpuss. The question was, should we laugh foreigners in the perfectly innocent (no, really) attempts at learning English? Especially when one considers how bad we would sound trying to speak their language.
For the record, I live in Korea, and I must sound so stupid whenever I try and speak their language.
Or is it that I've just got too old. Or I could have been here too long....

Did you really type the title like that to bring a meta example about this topic?

I don't, not really unless it's the usual getting 'l' and 'r' mixed up (not sure if it's strictly Japanese, or just Asian languages that do this), and even then I don't laugh directly at the person.
But it's one reason I dislike other languages, especially french, I never think I'm using the correct accent, so usually just stay quiet when in France (not that I speak much anywhere else, to be honest).

I like you you presume that everyone here is American or English cause you said "foreigners learning English"

And ofc you shouldn't, you should encourage them.

offtopic: their word for yes sounds like the dutch word for no, funky

Can't say I found that funny at all. I very rarely even hear two people from the same damn country pronounce a word to same way, where I live there's a divide about whether 'something' is pronounced 'somethink' or 'summin' and we're the capitol of bloody England.
Really not in a position to laugh at someone over speech.

I think it's ok, as long as it's good natured, and as long as you acknowledge that you'd probably sound just as goofy trying to speak their language.
I was in a German grocery store once and got some weird looks from the kid working there. He thought I wanted to dumpster dive behind the store when all I wanted was some cake mix. XD
Makes you more sympathetic when a Japanese person tries to say "really rarely" or when a German asks you for a "s**t" of paper.

THOSE DAM FORINERS STEILING AL R JOBS AN NOT USING DA LANUOGHE RIGHT.
/heavy, heavy amounts of sarcasm.

Yes, there will be quite few mispronunciations when going from one drastically different language to another.
And no, it's not particularly funny to me, I find it kinda juvenile.

If this comment appears annoyed or aimed at anyone, it's not, it's just late :p
