what games do you think could have been great, but fell short for whatever reason.
for me it was dark sector. this had the potential of being a great game, but he dodgy controls (he would for no expilcable reason start walking to the side when i wasn't controlling him) constant respawning enemies (leaving me thinking do i fight all these or just run?) and a bad convering system amongst others, left me feeling empty. it was like having a naked natalie portman in a chastity belt, but no key. the potential for the fun was there, but cruel fate snatches it away.

Far Cry 2

That game would have been fantastic, if only they had spent a little more time on the details (like why enemies guns work perfectly all the time yet disintegrate the moment you touch them, or why does everyone in the country shoot at you on site even though you aren't doing anything to them?).

It also needed a little more plot in it's beginning and end, but most of all, it needed to WORK.
I've never played a game with such a wide and catastrophic collection of bugs in my life.

I think every game in history technically falls into this slot in one way or another. even games I LOVE I can see just little tweaks that can make them so much better from very minor features, to story flow, to mechanics, to length.

so lets pick on a few of the more recent games I played " not exactly all favorites just more fresh in my head" and mention atleast one or two things I though could have improved it greatly.

Fable 2: better control over property.. IE if you buy a house and make it a marital home, then later move into the palace with the spouse and ( possibly)... you cant do anything to the former house, cant rent it, cant sell it.. I have empty property all over ( I had MANY families)

Mass Effect: more creative options as far as hair and even body structure, more diversity in the landscaping of UNC worlds ( the prefab building thing did not bother me as that sorta makes since)

Saints Row 2: better control over what SORT of gang you are... well your the new boss, perhaps you have different ideas..I personally cant stand the thug style..I tried " and tried hard" to give the appearance more akin to a mob/ or even a rebel group ( sorta based off the 2039 series) but was upset to see costume looks for the crew did not alter behavior, all the " gang cars" no matter the make were pimped out thug style, while I went pretentious, or tuner....

GH: world tour: create a star.. let us have more control over clothing, and more hair options ( I can make Ted... but not bill) also allowing vocals to be present in created tunes would be nice if even limiting that option for undistributed tracks..

those are just LITTLE things off the top of my head, we all can think of ALOT more for each one, but just goes to show.....

Gears of War Multiplayer

First, I would like to say that I am terrible at it so that might represent a negative bias.

That said I find that the matches de-evolve into a race to the mortar and the team that gets to it wins. Mr. Mortar lays waste to the map while the rest of us run in circles around each other attempting to melee or shotgun kill each other. Semms to me that there are balance issues in the placement and power of weapons. Not that the "there coming right for us" gameplay of Halo was better but at least I enjoyed that experience more. Can't wait for COD modern 2, really enjoyed that multiplayer experience.

I'm going to go with Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary The Box. Both games had really interesting concepts but shitty developers and bone headed design systems made the games fail. I would really like to see these games redone by a really good team, just so i know what they could of been like.
These games just go to show that a good idea doesn't make a good game.

Exactly. Still waiting for that February patch so I can finish the game. 6 months after release.

I'm going to state the obvious and say GTA4. I loved the game, I still play it regularly, but I'm still annoyed that they decided to include such a low amount of weapons and cooky vehicles.

I played the Legendary demo and thought it was a good idea, but my friend played it and couldn't see past the flaws.

Gun could have been far more amazing than it was, mainly because they kept things a bit too repetitive and could have used more scripted events and a less arcadey style. I mean, being a GTA clone on horseback is one thing, but the cheesey 'ching' sound for missions complete and such grew old after a while.

I'm going to assume everyone is going to say this, but Mirrors Edge. It had so much potential!
i never thought mirror's edge fell short, i enjoyed it thoroughly. people are just too close minded and would rather play something that requires no skill or effort (such as halo or killzone).
