Since when is miyamoto allowed to personally reap all the glory for not having an actual record at all? Sims shipped over twice that number.

Who actually buys boxed Windows? Most people who buy a prebuilt PC will have an OEM copy of Windows installed as part of the package. The Sims is targeted at a market of people who probably have bought prebuilt packages.
Given that to run The Sims you would need a PC with Windows or a Mac*, I think it's safe to say that the number of Windows users would be greater than the number of The Sims users.

*Disclaimer: Wine if you're a *nix person, but then you probably didn't buy a prebuilt PC anyway.
