The wii has some games indeed...but they're mostly japanese games not made by nintendo, that to me is not a problem since i import games from japan (i speak the language) but i can see how many of the past fans would have problems with the situation.

Games like one piece: unlimited cruise 1-2, tatsunoko VS capcom and fatal frame 5 (and of course NMH hehe :D) make me not regret spending those $250...but i'd be remissed not to mention that the DS owns the wii as far as gaming goes.

As for the casual market, sure those won't be major fans, they won't spend that much and they won't partake in gaming for long...but there's so many of them and like a hydra when 1 stops gaming 2 more new customers pop their wii cherry and the circle goes on...all i hope for is that nintendo takes all that money they made this gen and develops a console that will at least keep up with ps4 and xbox-we-got-money :p.

Doesn't matter to me, I never grew up with Nintendo so I don't particularly care that much for Miyamoto.

Shitsux for longtime Nintendo fans though.
Brother, you have no idea. Growing up, Miyamoto was one of my icons, revered as much as C&C's Kane or Gygax for being visionaries that applied themselves to reach their dreams. Currently, it seems that his career has plateaud, and he is trying to stall his downfall by releasing simple, family-friendly games as his "next innovation". 'Tis sad to see your childhood heroes fade away, you know?
Same here dude.
I used to worship this dude for Star Fox and OoT. I was heartbroken when Miyamoto said he was no longer making games for gamers.

Which, doesn't make sense. Not making games for gamers and instead making games for those whom don't play video games will eventually cause a huge backlash where you failed to capture someone who has no interest in you.
but they do play games, surely that means they are gamers, even if they only play certain types of game.

While I do agree with you on some parts, it must indeed be heartbreaking to see a facet of your childhood changing drastically; however, it is not financially viable to make games exclusively for a constantly dwindling number of fans, they need a sustainable audience; it is getting to the point where most people who had an NES and even a SNES have other, more pressing commitments, they can't keep gaming, at least not at the same level they used to, if Ninty tried to make a console exclusive to fans, it would go out of business, I'm sorry, but Nintendo has to move on, and so must it's fans.

Just my two cents on the situation.

Sadly, nostalgia doesn't sell these days. Looking at the way Sonic has panned out, for example, is a good way to look at this.

Have to be in agreement with all the folks out there saying Nintendo is only doing what they are doing to stay in business and stay viable. Really, the bigger issue and "bigger picture" goes beyond Nintendo - if investors and folks with the purse strings see that casual gaming is the new market towards tons of cash, what does that mean for traditionally developed games?

To me, that means more remote-waggling shovelware and less quality games that have a gateway of difficulty and are challenging and engaging to players. While there isn't any indication the entire industry might head in this direction, the lure of the dollar is very tempting.

Honestly, as long as games are made expansive and developed for both the casual and the core gamer in tandem, I don't really care what Nintendo does - I'll just speak my mind with my wallet.

Good on him! People need to stop whining seen as a lot of them blatantly don't care for Nintendo anyway... Gamers get enough challenging games anyway, Nintendo's current games are still fun and involving, and it's nice to see casual or non-gamers finally have a chance to get involved with the rest of us...

Believe it or not, what Nintendo is doing is what's really making games more culturally relevant than the bullshit pretentious art games that are boring to play. Gamers now are fickle assholes who cry "sellout" to anything that doesn't appeal to them. It's like a musician who wants to try out new music but his old fans keep yelling at him saying "stop doing other things and go back to making music we like to listen to, you sellout". God forbid they want to make a game for other people.

Note "traditional" sequels. In other words, don't expect anything but Nintendo icons playing tennis with your Miis.

The claims towards casual games are really not a matter of a new direction for innovation or improving games. They are cheap and easily marketed towards people who are willing to attach themselves to the latest fad so they can find out their BMI and gyrate in front of their televisions. Nintendo's old formula cannot succeed while remaining so stagnant, so without any truly creative directions to attract one growing market, they aim for the soft target that does indeed allow something different, just not always good.

There are some lessons Nintendo can take from the competition so as not to gain one new market while completely losing an old following.

Nice 2 year necro-bump there, but I'm pretty sure we've all swallowed the painful pill that Miyamoto's career in core video game design is over.

Which is why I'm so glad that after being a faithful GC owner for so long that I ended up disillusioned and bought an Xbox, leading me to the 360 and PS3 eventually.

Aw well, the Nintendo (especially Mario) parodies on Youtube are great fun [sub]and slightly therapeutic...[/sub]

No we aren't but we could probably be convinced that you are, since you admitted it yourself.

Nothing worse than America bashing from an American.
I would like to first of all state that this was two fucking years ago... how did you find it?

and i would like to follow up with the name of a show "My strange obession"

i watched an episode two nights ago. A ***** was EATING her COUCH CUSHION. for THIRTY YEARS she'd get new couches and EAT THEM. Why did she do this? cause the dumb ass ***** had her parents divorced and she thought she could stop it somehow, but couldn't. So she ate her couch...

at the end of the show they have a 'NOW WHERE THEY AT' moment... she had to go to the hospital because her lower intestine was blocked... but THE DUMBASS ***** FACE WAS STILL EATING THE CUSHIONS.

Then afterwards they had "Do you have any strange obessions? send your answers here" to which i respond, i wonder how many dumbasses started doing stupid shit to get on this fucking television show.

It was on the front page of one of the forums, I didn't dig for it.

WTF are you talking about? What does a lady eating a couch have to do with America bashing or Miyamoto?
the story about the woman is the fact that AMERICANS ARE FUCKING STUPID. THE ***** IS EATING HER COUCH BECAUSE SHE IS STUPID. and i apologize, didn't see the other guy who bumped this two year old article... Thought it was you cause you were the first person i saw.
