I always hope Esports continues to grow and become better.

I never wanted to be a pro athlete,I am athletic, but I only play sports for fun.

Lastly I hope it isn't such a joke. the only reason I could see it being such a joke is litterly every shit head teenager who plays CoD or Halo always tries to say they were offered a huge sponsership, but just happened to turn it down, but could beat all the pros when they played with them.

I find SC2 does a great job of stopping this. I can look up your rank, and tournament history.

I don't think it's a joke. I just think it's silly how many people will frown on it for being about gaming. "LOL THEY HAVE NO LIVES HERP DE DURP" or something equally stupid.

I think it's good where it is, even if it needs a bit more acceptance. However, I'd rather it didn't turn into something like a real sport. The moment we get college scholarships based on our performance with Halo is the day I kill myself. >.>

Worthless. It's effectively just a tournament system for games that don't have some form of such built in.

I like the idea of groups of friends playing together against other groups. But that's kind of where it stops for me. It all boils down to a pissing contest of who can yell the other cheated louder, and who wants to tote their E-peen around more.

The people who really enjoy it play more video games then they should... If they just committed that time to practicing a real sport they could probably play in an Amateur sport league.

Just like professional sports, its just an outlet for people to do something they love in public. At least MLG players don't demand huge amounts of money for what basically amounts to, well, playing a game. They genuinely seem to be doing it because they like it, and more power to them. And unlike pro sports, anyone can compete in MLG if they have the time and dedication; age, physical ability, gender, all these don't matter. And that's great.

However, the COMMUNITY it spawned is a whole 'nother matter. Just like many pro sports fans, they get WAY to into it, but without the clear divide between player and fan that, say, football has, its led to a wave of considerably undeserved dickishness. No guy in the world goes outside for a game of pick-up ball and goes home thinking he's Joe Montana, but far too many gamers see the recognition that MLGers get for basically doing the same thing they are, and think that therefore they are deserving of the same attention. Thats why you get so many players emulating and imitating MLG players, forcing the specific rules on every aspect of the games they play in an attempt to win the same recognition for themselves.

Unlike most sports, gaming doesn't have one set of clearly defined "correct" rules. Every game is different, and every person has their own way they like to play. MLG-wannabes take offense at this. They spend their time practicing and perfecting under a very specific type of circumstances, the same as their idols. The idea that someone else could be good at the game without doing it the same way as them is incomprehensible, and therefore must be cheating or unfair, completely glossing over the fact that it was they who shut themselves in the box to begin with. The MLG rules were not created because they were the "fairest" way to play, they were made because it was the fastest way, forcing confrontation in, say, FPS to the forefront and thus focusing on individual skill. It was not because "OMG TEH NEEDLER IS BORKEN".

Basically, TLDR on the second section, the MLG community has taken the act of professional gaming without regards to the spirit or point of the game in the first place. Really not so different than professional sports in that regard. Also, the unnecessary entitlement and bravado really soil the experience for those who just wish to play on a more focused and competitive level.

I think it's a good thing. Anything that promotes esports is great in my books.

MLGers take the spirit of a game and ruin it by adding crap like tiers, X stage only, no items etc.

This proves my point.

I really like watching chess and Starcraft tournaments. Don't see anything wrong with it, not all people care about "real" sport. For me a mind game are far more interesting (there are one exception boxing great sport). Plus just because a person play at a high level doesn't mean that they have ever wanted to play soccer or other sports.

I don't like it, not because of the fact that people play off it and treat the players like gods for having quick thumbs, but because it has turned a lot of people on Xbox Live into morons. Seriously, its like a bad cult.

It creates annoying fanboys, but I see why people would want to do it.
I've dabbled in it, but it took a lot of the fun away from the games for me.

I don't mind it and wish organized gaming competition did receive more mainstream coverage. As a fighting game fan, I find that focused competition actually adds to the fun rather than taking away from it.

Eh, I don't like it. It's turned people into blind followers, imitating the "MLG" lifestyle.

I find it interesting how my friends and I have kicked "MLG" players' asses just by having a good time. Ah, those were fun.
