This isn't intended to be a jab at the brony/mlp community at all but, How long do you think this thing will last for? I've been surprised by it's tenacity thusfar but i have noticed the whole thing seems to be on the wane now.
How long before pictures of fluttershy stop turning up in avatars do you reckon? I give in another six months.
Bonus question! What will follow? What will the finckle finger of internet fandom point to next?

When people stop complaining about it I'd think.

As long as it has fans.

I'd like to see Transformers as the next fan thing, I mean we need redemption after the Bayformers.

Depends on what you define as it "ending". There'll be a small hard-core fandom for decades to come, but the mainstream movement will probably keep going until they stop making new series, or it jumps the shark. It's popularity has definitely gone well past it's peak though, I realised this about six months ago when I noticed the only people on my friends list who still had MLP avatars were ones who had left the site.

Who knows? Some of us just really like the show. You should brace yourself though, season 3 is on its way, so you're likely going to get a barrage of images, memes and clips from the new guys joining the fandom.

It's going to be an absolute nightmare. Probably.

CAPTCHA: good riddance. Well fuck you too, captcha.

EDIT: Oh dammit, ninja'd by Topaz.

EDIT 2: Also, out of the known bronies in this thread, I am disappoint that I am the only one with a pertaining avatar so far. Oh well.

As Sean Hollyman (Clearly a closet Brony) said, it will last until people stop being fans.

I'd love to find out. So far, all of my personal speculation seems to be either inconclusive or contradictory. One of the bigger factors is the handling and reception of Season 3 (whenever it comes out). It did grow steadily through season one, peak around the premiere of season 2, and is currently on the wane due to a number of factors, though whether or not it will pick up again or continue to decline remains to be seen.

I'm just sticking along for the ride.

Actually, I don't think it's "waning" so much as the more vocal and annoying bronies are starting to realize that their efforts are counter-productive. Trekkies have existed for decades but they don't get hated on because they realize that not everyone has to love it, they just do their own thing and nobody cares 'cause they're not bothering anyone.

I'd say it's a good sign that the brony community is becoming less defensive and reactionary. That doesn't mean they love it any less.
I hope that bronidom will live on for years to come! :)

I give it another year until. Hardcore fans will still be there but I doubt we'll be seeing it everywhere by this time next year. I'm sure something new will catch their fancy.

I have no idea, but part of me wishes soon, whilst another part wishes that it keeps on trucking for ages. And it's all down to the hate it gets. Sometimes I wish it ends soon because some of the hate is just bloody annoying but then again sometimes it's hilarious and that's when I want it to keep going.

I think it's waning in the sense that the rabid bronies that shoved MLP in people's faces and into every type of entertainment imaginable are disappearing. Mainly because they may now realise that it is harming instead of helping

Probably for some time. It'll probably get smaller gradually, with more people stopping watching it, until its just a small fanbase re-watching and putting MLP avatars on their profiles for years to come. In terms of years, I estimate around 5-6 years for it to properly die down, but it might never be totally extinguished.
Also, why is captcha asking me what a great white shark eats? Especially when none of the answers seem very likely? I picked 'anything it wants' but that doesn't seem much more likely than 'turkey sandwich' although a lot more likely than 'belgian waffle'.

It's not waning silly. The season 1 DVD got up to number 3 in the Amazon pre order charts in about two days. Also, season 2 is coming...

I reckon it'll last until a few years or so after the show itself ends completely. The amount of stuff we create/have created is unimaginable.

OT: Never underestimate the power of such a dedicated fanbase. It'll be around for a good while yet I imagine.

Also there's gonna be a resurgence when season 3 starts.

Well, this whole thing is a huge cultural phenomenon. I'm sure the fanbase will remain strong at least as longe as the show itself lasts. Afterwards... not sure. I think there will still be a huge fanbase, even though it wont be growing as fast as it is now. The show will probably keep it's cult following but i suppose it's going to be a bit more exlusive than it is now.

What's the average number of seasons a show gets before it's RUINED FOREVER? I'd say about that long, give or take.

A long time. Even though the series will eventually end, the fans will keep it alive through various means of their own. Hell, that's what they've been doing since the beginning. There probably wouldn't be a season 2 without the bronies.

Isn't it around 5-6 seasons before you start to feel like you've seen it all before, then if it gets to 10 or more you begin to wonder where it all went wrong? Except, maybe, for adventure series that follow a persistent and evolving storyline instead of presenting "slice of life" episodes.

Hey, what season is The Simpsons at again?

I like the show, though admittedly I'm kind of done with it, at least until season 3 starts anyway.

But I think I'm mostly tired of it because I got over all this Brony stuff and mostly came to realize that the show isn't as good as I thought it was when I first saw it.

Now this new cartoon, Gravity Falls, that is a cartoon worth gushing over. In my opinion anyway...man I love that show...

I hope that the show gets canceled before it jumps the shark. And I hope the community gets reduced to the level it was back when the show was still new. When people weren't as zealous or vocal in their appreciation for it. When the whole thing was tongue-in-cheek rather than 'serious business'.

But I fear that the show will get worse with each passing season and that the community will become indistinguishable from the Sonic fandom.
