MMO Dilemma...

Okay, that's better.

Anyway, I have a bit of a dilemma. School's finally starting to wind down, and I finally have the time again to play an MMO. After finally clearing 8GB of space on my computer, I can even install one. The problem is, I'm at a loss for which one to install.

On the one hand, City of Heroes has apparently entered Issue 14, which is supposed to have the tools for players to generate their own stories. I've been looking forward to this for quite a while (ever since it was announced last year, really), and I have a story in mind I'd like to try to make. While doing that, I'd probably also continue trying to reach level 50 with any one of my characters so I can use the epic archetypes.

On the other hand, the game I've really been missing is World of Warcraft. I haven't played since last year, long before Wrath of the Lich King came out. Luckily, since I don't really care about Warcraft's story continuity or endgame content, none of the complaints I've seen about the expansion matter to me, and the new stuff (especially the new profession) looks downright awesome.

I'm seriously undecided on this one, and I've decided to go against my every instinct (which are all screaming "They all hate WoW, you know what the answer will be!") and ask advice here...or at least have a bunch of people flip coins.

Give him time, dammit. I personally have a limit of 10 minutes before I report someone for (no text) or equivalent, so why can't other people show some restraint? I wasn't going to post until he'd posted something, but people posting things like you just did really get on my nerves. No offence, but it's true. Give the guy time is all I'm saying.

Relax, I haven't reported anybody.

Yeah, we're definitely not taking and D.O.T. waiting. I know we're all eager to help with his 'dilemma' but surely won't die waiting.

//sorry, broke the quote.

If you want PvE, choose LotRO ;) Unfortunately I still don't know your dilemma, but LotRO is always a good answer.

Thanks. However, I suppose it's OK to report now as it has been 10 minutes now, so we've waited long enough. It shouldn't take 10 minutes to type something, no matter how long your post is.

If you still have characters and can just reactivate your account, I'd say go with World of Warcraft first, see if the expansion sticks with you, and then go to CoH if it doesn't. For all the complaining, Blizzard really did a fantastic job with Northrend.

Besides, if you enjoyed the game before, you gotta try a DK; they are ridiculously fun.

FFxi or LOtRO. =D

My Blackberry has a coin flipping app.

Yeah, the DK story is pretty fun too.

Don't you have to be a certain level to use those?

It's very easy to level an easy class like a Hunter or something. Then at 55 roll a DK, could easily do it within a week of average play.

WoW makes you happy.
Get it.

Still, you could always play Fiesta, but I know thats not gonna happen.

You got to love World of Warcraft, and WotLK was awesome. Way better than tBC imo.

Personally I'm holding out for the World of Darkness MMO [http://www.wodonlinenews.net].

In the meantime I guess I'll give Age of Conan another try, heard it had gotten much better since launch.

If you must play an MMO, you should play WoW (it's the only decent one).

World of Warcraft has become rather awesome since Wrath of the Lich King came out, sure, raids are a little easier (though the most recent one features "hard mode" bosses, which are happily kicking everyone's arse), but the quests are so much more varied and fun and the story is great.

And also, thanks to a new "phasing" technique implemented by blizzard...

Your character can actually have an impact on the world! (as he perceives it)

I guess patience did pay off...

Anyway, we aren't all going to shout "WE HATE WoW!", since there are plenty here who like it. I'm not one of them, indeed unless they release a Firefly MMO, the only MMO I'd ever even consider paying for is Final Fantasy XI. However, I read your original post and I have to say I'd pick City of Heroes. Judging by what I know about both of them, City of Heroes is more enjoyable, and you've already got some way through it which makes it even better for you (since you said yourself you haven't played WoW since last year). It's up to you ultimately, but I'd pick City of Heroes personally.

Try the WoW 10 day WotLK trial.

Death Knights are fun to play, and heirloom items have made leveling alts a lot easier. Everything else hasn't really changed.

EDIT: Death Knights are only playable if you have a level 55+ character.

Exactly. Particularly since they changed it to you just needing to have a character of lvl 55 on ANY realm to roll a DK on ANY realm (not necessarily the same one), so even if you want to play on a PvP realm, you can do your leveling on a PvE realm and not have to worry one bit about gankers. And generally speaking, it took me on average of 5-9 play hours to get to 55, depending on the class.

I would drop everything I was doing and eat nothing but cheap ramen for a week to play a WoD MMO. As long as it involved either werewolves, mages, mummies, kuei-jin, wraiths, or demons.

I tend to waffle around, actually, so my "average" play doesn't include very fast leveling. Luckily, my highest character is a 45 Hunter... ^_^

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. CoH was my first (not counting Guild Wars, which frustrated me pretty quickly) MMO, and it still rocks. Hence my indecision.

Sorry, I just noticed that WoW seemed one of the board's hot-button topics, right below Halo and JRPGs.

My problem was mainly that I enjoy both a lot, and absence from a game makes me more curious than anything.

Well, since I have a ton of alts (a habit, oddly enough, picked up from CoH), that does sound appealing.

...

I think I'll go with WoW. My curiosity has reached fever point and finally pulled ahead of my desire to play Architect. Come to think of it, how long has it--

o_O ARRRGGH!

EDIT: Okay, okay, not to panic. I'll just borrow another computer temporarily. It's only $15, if that...

dude, just get another hard drive. It's not like they're matter and antimatter, causing the universe to implode when installed on the same machine.
