Please excuse my spelling/grammer/rambvling nonsense, I've had an exhausting day, but this has been on my mind all day, so i thought i'd get it out.

I was recently digging through my DVD collection, trying to find something to watch whilst running people over in GTAV, when i found Conan the Barbarian.

Yep, that Conan. The Schwarzenegger one that takes half a dump on the majority of the Howard mythos - however, it had always been a fun movie, and so i watched it about three times in a row.

Afterward i had a hankering to return to the Age of Conan MMO - I'd bought it when it had first come out, and had slogged through the grueling growing pains of a fledgling MMO before finally quitting in disgust - but balked at the idea whilst looking down at the game in my hand. After installing about 10 gig (was it ten gig? cant remember...) of data, I'd accumulated over 20 more in updates during my tenure as a Cimmarian Barbarian. That was a shocking amount for a guy who has a 25gig cap on his monthly internet account.

I occasionally return to WoW every now and then, when the planets align and i lose the feel for shooting things in the face, but eventually the fun runs out and it loses its appeal as well - getting near the end game requires a lot of serious effort, effort i simply cannot be bothered to give.

My questions are -

1. Is anybody still playing AoC, and enjoying it?
2. Have they fixed a lot of the bugs that were plaguing it two years ago?
3. Has anybody else ever had this problem?

I played it for a while, can't say I liked it, but then again, MMO's have never really been my thing. It was good, but not good enough to draw me in.

However, I do so love the movie. Arnie at his silly, silly prime.
Heh, i love the 80's Arnie. If you ever put on Commando i'd laugh so hard i'd pee a little. My friend at work also loves it, we quote it all the time.

I find MMOs depend MASSIVELY on the community. I stopped playing WoW a good while ago, because while I enjoyed the questing and exploration aspects - especially with a friend - after a few weeks of dungeons I discovered that 80% of the player base are dicks - even on the RP servers, which started out well, but then gathered all the overflow from normal servers.

Now, does it answer your question? Why yes, it does! AoC got quite a few patches. Don't know the details, as I don't play it, but I know there's been a lot. Are there people playing it? It hasn't gone the way of Tabula Rasa, so I guess yes. But the REAL question is - how do those people behave? Check the forums before you go in, maybe even better do a trial before you commit to the fee again.

I got into WoW for a while. And even once you get to level 80, its still really hard to break into real endgame. the Gear checks killed me.

And as far as the 25gig cap goes, i should F***ing destroy you. I have a 2gig cap. Were 10 days into the term and my on peak is ALREADY shaped. Pretty much cuts out all online play for me. Speeds not crash hot either.

One of my friends is actually talking about trying to make his own only multiplayer game (not real massive). At the moment its looking like a sort of class based shooter where you play a chicken. . . .

"I eat Green Berets for breakfast. And right now, I'm very hungry!"
That line makes me fall to the floor laughing every single time.
Ha! "Your men make me laugh. If John was here, he'd laugh too."

Bennet and his stupid woolly vest makes me crack up every time.

I found a lot of the arsehole gamer community went to AoC as well, with the atypical 'go back to WoW' response to anything queried in the chat. I'll go check the forums and see if it seems like they are still around.

The appeal to AoC was the fact is was an 'adult' MMO - even though the players mostly seemed like twelve-year old e-thugs.
