I lurk, but the opportunities to contribute to threads grow thinner by the day, as it seems to take less and less time for people to turn them into arenas to snipe at each other to settle old grudges.

It's funny how places like Gab is 'pro-Free Speech' but only ends up with a certain type of Speech

I just set up rules upfront and tell them to take their snipes and whatever to private messages.

All it takes one ***** in a box stand in charge, to have a bunch of others act like bitches. Especially when there claiming to be something they're not or major hypocrites about their supposed 'ideals'.

At least now the Front Page is active and being constantly updated
Not worth even glancing over, tbh. The thing that made this website unique and exciting was all the original content such as Apocalypse Lane, Doraleus and Associates, Jimquisition, Zero Punctuation, Escape to the Movies etc. Now all that is left is ZP and Movie Bob and it's just not enough.
This. Not to mention you can find better content on YT or other gaming sites. Most people just comment on Yahtzee's reviews uploaded to YT. MB is a hack, do his stuff gets old and tiring before it goes splat on the ground. All of the other articles so much, yet so little at the same time.

I remember this forum was super active when I joined. There were all sorts of conversations going on at once and the front page of each forum cycled pretty fast. The site is just bleeding its longtime active users now and isn't bringing anyone in to replace them. I go on reddit some but it isn't the same. With the wide reach of social media, forums don't really have the pull they use to and might even go the way of the dinosaur.

I go through phases where I post on here and read the threads when I'm going through a hermit period. And then I have long periods off it, escpecially when I'm feeling really good and I want to socialise and i forget about it.

And finally, despite all the rules here, EpycWin still came here. Still posted. *shrugs*
Yes, and he was an absolutely insufferable shit lord that pissed many people off, ruined their fun, and broke the site to the point the mods had to make rules specifically to make sure he didn't do it again or get banned. Someone who pushed the boundary of "But I'm not doing anything wrong, your rules say so right there!" so many times that he got far more chances than he deserved. He was a prime example of why I think rules deserve their place in any community, and is exactly why I fear places that try to be too hands off with the moderation of their people.
Y'know personally I took epic as the perfect demonstration of what was wrong with both the rules and the application of the rules on this site.

We all had conversations about how there was this or that group who had perfected the art of being shitty to other people without ever risking punishment on this site, but they paled in comparison to epic. The fact that he lasted as long as he did showed how ineffective moderation was while simultaneously flagging massive holes in the rules that had existed for quite a while unchanged. Those rules were written as inclusive or safe or blah blah blah, but they couldn't stand up in the face of a real, overt abuser and it shine a harsh light on all the people who were covertly abusing by demonstrating all the same methods in an obnoxious way.

We really did need a bastard to show up and wave their dick around to show just how poorly constructed this system was. I didn't like it when it happened and he went way too far, but it's hard not to recognise what was achieved.

Ah right, Epyc Wynn.

He was obnoxious, yeah. But it at least injected some energy into the forums.

I know of the dude, but I don't remember him. I was never into the Wild West forums, so I guess I missed all his infamous-ness. What'd he do that earned him a comparison to teeth being pulled?

I've run into Saelune on Warframe before, pretty funny coincidence actually.

They've logged in pretty recently so they're clearly still around. :)

I dunno if I'd call myself active anymore. Being in my own apartment now, and being in a more open work environment, I feel I have less time to browse, or I prefer to use my usual browsing time for other stuff. That and in general...The fun discussion's been slowly dying down here, so when I do go on forums it's typically specialized ones, like reddits or game FAQ forums for games I'm playing, or systems I have.

Heck, the politics had me whether I liked it or not here. I'd swear off R&P at least once a month, then 2 weeks later I'd peek in and immediately go "oh HELL NO, that poster did NOT just say that, time to argue". XD

*Sigh* Sadly, nothing has ever (or likely will ever) recapture the magic of AGN, the first forum I went on. I went there for the company more than anything, and haven't really made "real" online friends since. :(

He broke the forums repeatedly because he got a kick out of it for some reason. Not sure what else he did.

In addition to breaking the forums (and by that I mean; he actually completely broke the website code/formatting so that he could post messages outside the post box, no idea how he did that, and also changed the images/avatars that appear on your screen etc), but he also spammed pointless replies/memes in every thread for a while.
The mods had just gotten rid of the Low Content rule, so apparently there was no rule to stop him from doing that.

He also completely took over the Wild West. And yes I know, there were no rules in the Wild West. But there was kinda an unspoken rule where you don't fill several pages of the board with nothing but duplicate threads consisting of only his stupid dumb "memes".
I remember opening that board one day, and every thread was "EpycWynn" all the way down the page, with nothing else - from anyone else - to be seen. He'd basically become a human spambot.

All in all, it was more a failure of the rules than anything else (or lack of rules, to be more accurate). Wynn saw that the Low Content rule had been removed and the Wild West forum had been created, and decided to dial it up to 11 and see just how far he could push it.

Oh, there was also some usergroup drama involved too. And a mod lost their position, or something. But I don't pay much attention to usergroups.

What, is he fucking Beetlejuice? Mention his name too many times and he comes back from the ban list to...what, mildly annoy the mods for 6 hours? As far as I can tell he, like so many unworthy, went down with the Wild West and the site has been the better for it.

To be fair, he only broke the forums in the one thread he created to experiment with breaking the forums and then notified the mods that the forums could be broken like that. He actually thought he was doing the site a favour by exposing a design flaw, you know, not really understanding that there wasn't anybody around to fix it at that point. And it was pretty cool, actually. I had never considered that the forums worked that way at all. I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to tell you how he did it, though.

Imagine being trapped in a room with a thirteen year old hopped up on caffeine and sugar who is constantly trying to show you memes on his cell phone. That's what being around Epyc Wynn was like, pretty much. Except he was like thirty, I think.

Also he was really into autoplay videos at first. I mean, everyone had a bit of fun with those, but he took it a bit far. He did eventually get the message and stop, though.

Ugh. Why did you have to mention EW again? I'd blissfully forgotten he even existed until now.

Also, I fucking hate that stupid 'meme face' that he kept spamming everywhere.

You know, the worst part is you never know what happens to someone when they leave. Are they happy? Healthy? What are they doing now instead of posting on the Escapist. Looking through old threads I see dozens of people I recognize and used to enjoy reading posts from, but they all might as well be dead to me because they haven't logged on in years and I'll probably never see anything they write ever again. :/

I know, right? Like, probably most of them have just gone on to have lives and have outgrown us and we should be ahppy for them, but still.

Now you're confusing Wynn with Marik2 who copied "the entire" forum games content to the West 😜

If we're recalling people - Zontar would be on top. Ezekiel was hard done by

But also people like Frappe, Addenudum, Fat Hippo, I don't think I've seen Cadamus Prime or Abomination for a while
