ModDB Announces 2016 Mod of the Year Winners

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1371/1371802.jpgModDB's mod of the year award for 2016 goes to...

If you follow the PC modding scene, you're more than familiar with recently announced an expansion [http://www.moddb.com/]. It turns out that I would have been wrong.

The winner of that vote was STALKER: Call of Chernobyl, the similarly huge mod for STALKER: Call of Pripyat. Created by TeamEPIC, it's a free-play sandbox mod that adds 32 maps, a number of fixes, an overhaul to the game's AI, and enhancements to the game engine. It also includes a number of game modes you can try out, from Ironman to zombie survival. You can find out more about Call of Chernobyl on its ModDB page [http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-chernobyl].

The other top ten winners in the Mod of the Year award were:

2. Enderal [http://www.moddb.com/mods/enderal]
3. Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War [http://www.moddb.com/mods/hearts-of-iron-iv-the-great-war1]
4. Thrawn's Revenge: Imperial Civil War [http://www.moddb.com/mods/thrawns-revenge]
5. Brutal Doom 64 [http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom-64]
6. Medieval Kingdoms Total War (Attila Version) [http://www.moddb.com/mods/medieval-kingdoms-total-war-attila-version]
7. Divide and Conquer [http://www.moddb.com/mods/divide-and-conquer]
8. Call of Warhammer: Beginning of The End Times [http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-warhammer-beginning-of-the-end-times]
9. RHS: Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (A3) [http://www.moddb.com/mods/rhs-armed-forces-of-the-russian-federation-a3]
10. Expanding Fronts [http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-galactic-battlegrounds-expanding-fronts]

Good to see the Thrawn's Revenge team still getting recognition after all these years. They deserve it too, what with heading two successful total conversion mods simultaneously while still keeping fans updated on a regular basis.

I had a lot of fun with Call of Chernobyl a couple months back. Absolutely recommend it for anyone who has Pripyat, I had a grand time. Still haven't even explored half of it, and I probably sunk 15-20 hours into it. Most of that was Hunting Monolith for sport. I could probably just do that alone for another 40 hours.

Seriously, no love for Mental Omega? Now that Paradox is officially dead and buried, this is the biggest and most ambitious mod for any Command & Conquer game. If you own Red Alert 2 and expansion Yuri's Revenge you owe it to yourself to check out Mental Omega (you can find it here: http://mentalomega.com/). The latest release added a 4th faction to the game and 51 brand new missions across three campaigns (one for each faction from the vanilla game, with a 4th campaign for the new faction to come eventually).

EDIT: Still not sold? Here's the trailer:
