HEY those pirate invaded towns stole booty and.. oh wait nevermind wrong pirates...CantFaketheFunk said:I'm pretty sure the context of that sentence made it rather clear that by "bastards" I was referring to pirates. Who I have absolutely no sympathy for.Glefistus said:"a few of the bastards"
Wow, way to blindly attack modders. Godforbid someone mods an Xbox to play homebrew or games from oversees.
Surely that would be "Though the heavy banhammer might not catch only the pirates." rather than "all the pirates"?Glefistus said:When I read "Though the heavy banhammer might not catch all the pirates," I inferred that you were including innocent modders under the banner of piracy.CantFaketheFunk said:I'm pretty sure the context of that sentence made it rather clear that by "bastards" I was referring to pirates. yes but even doing stuff like that is still illegal, in the states you can even go to jail for it. it's called the DMCA and makes modding anything potentially illegal. claim what you want but no matter what both pirates and "legit" modders are doing something illegalGlefistus said:"a few of the bastards"

not really as much as the "homebrew" crowd likes to say "oh i got the chip for this reason" 9 times out of 10 they got it so they can pirate games and for no other reason, also the fact that with those chips you can pirate means it's still highly illegal, even if you don't use itGlefistus said:It is one of those legalities that hurt more people than they should, an anti-piracy method gone too far.cleverlymadeup said:yes but even doing stuff like that is still illegal, in the states you can even go to jail for it. it's called the DMCA and makes modding anything potentially illegal. claim what you want but no matter what both pirates and "legit" modders are doing something illegalGlefistus said:"a few of the bastards"

i will make one note and that is i'm glad Funk cropped the screenshot a bit as we're all familiar with his browsing habits [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.153930]
Even so, this is a news article, not an editorial. It's ridiculous to go spouting personal opinions in something that should be rightfully neutral. Journalistic integrity my ass.CantFaketheFunk said:I'm pretty sure the context of that sentence made it rather clear that by "bastards" I was referring to pirates. Statistics? Oh wait, you have none. You also seem to think the 100,000 (1 out of 10) people who legitimately chip their 360s who've been kicked for no good reason don't matter. You can argue the technical legality sure, but they're most certainly not "Little Bastards". That's stupid, unfair and offensive.cleverlymadeup said:not really as much as the "homebrew" crowd likes to say "oh i got the chip for this reason" 9 times out of 10 they got it so they can pirate games and for no other reason, also the fact that with those chips you can pirate means it's still highly illegal, even if you don't use itGlefistus said:It is one of those legalities that hurt more people than they should, an anti-piracy method gone too far.cleverlymadeup said:yes but even doing stuff like that is still illegal, in the states you can even go to jail for it. it's called the DMCA and makes modding anything potentially illegal. claim what you want but no matter what both pirates and "legit" modders are doing something illegalGlefistus said:"a few of the bastards"

Well, it's not like it'd be illegal. There's no way in hell Congress would pass a law banning people from taking apart their own electronic devices. Unless it can be conclusively proved that console was used for pirated games, of course, but even then...Baby Tea said:Though I didn't know one could just openly sell modded consoles.
