I've been playing around with The Source SDK and Hammer for a couple of months now, and having always loved the mapmaking element of FPS's from Timesplitters 2 to Far Cry: Instincts, have decided to step it up a notch.

I have a few ideas for some custom maps for Team Fortress 2; using the same gameplay ideas, but altering the theme heavily, so that whilst it's still recognisable as TF2, it has a whole new element to it which can't be found in any default maps currently circulating.

I myself would be in charge of basic layout of the maps. Then I would require an additional two people; one to handle modelling detail, and the other texturing and look. If anyone whose familiar with the SDK fancies giving it a go, then post here.

Anyone? Wow I expected a slim audience for this post, but hoped at least someone out there would be interested. Looks like another few months to do it myself...

You'll struggle to get people on board with this. What you're basically saying is that you've got an idea for a level but no idea how to make it. What most people in that situation would do it learn to build levels.

Just about every game's modding forum has a standing rule that you'd better have built something yourself before you start recruiting others---people do not exist at your beck and call to make your games for you, and even if you've got a grand vision, unless you're going to be doing 90%-plus of the work, you're going to have to compromise and learn to work with your development team that you've assembled lest you drive them away by shooting down their ideas as "that's not what I wanted!"

Keep the mantra "build it and they will come" in mind. Show off some examples of your skill so that people take you seriously and want to work with you.

Sorry dude, you've got to take the hard road and learn how to mod. With the right tools it's not that hard though so don't worry, but it does take a long time.
