I've always had an intrest in making games and level design. I took a couple classes that were offered around the area, but nothing got that serious. I was wondering, if I wanted to learn how to modd, where would be a good place to start learning how?

The internet - find a game with a solid toolset (Crysis' is good apparently, and so's the set for NWN), then just search tutorials.

Mount & Blade is a great easy, simple PC game to start modding a game. There are loads of tools over at MBRepository.
I heard that Dragon Age Origins uses a similar toolset to Neverwinter Nights so you might want to check that out.

TESIV: Oblivions TESIV: Contruction Set was the first tool I used, it's easy once you get the basics and there are a few very good guides out there. Depends on which games you want to mod tho^^

If you have Half Life 2 or any other source game the source engine can really allow you to do anything. Quake 3 also uses the similar system and since it's 10 years old has quite a large base of tutorials and documentation for both Quake 3 and Source.

NWN is said to be good. DA uses a much much more complex version, but is along the same lines.
