Modeling the Mako

Hey guys, I need a bit of help. Some background:

I'm taking a course in Solid and Surface Modeling at my highschool. Our final project is to pick something of appropriate complexity and model it accurately. Some people do fictional/iconic things, like an AT-AT or the Enterprise, whereas others do things like a set of Headphones or a PSP. I, personally, chose to do the Mako from Mass Effect 1 (I wanted to do the Normandy, but the teacher said it was too complex for the short amount of time we have). I can probably do this just using online screenshots for reference, but it would be much easier if I could get perfect views from specific angles to use as bitmaps from which to model. So, if anyone who has both a capture card and Mass Effect could please get me screen shots of the front, back, left, right, top, and bottom views (as straight as possible) I would really appreciate it. I'd do it myself, but I have neither a capture card nor the PC version of ME.

How soon do you need the pictures? Because if you can wait until later tomorrow I can get them to you.

Or if you can't wait I can fire up Mass Effect 2 and take pictures of the Normandy's crash site. The Mako's there, and I could probably get something from it.

No time pressure. I'd like to have them by the end of the week, but even that is just a preference, not a necessity. Thanks man.

Got some screenshots from ME2 real quick. Didn't get much from the back or left, but the front/top and right sides may work. They're 1280 x 1084(click the "full size" option in the upper right), so they should be big enough for you.

I'll be re-downloading Mass Effect 1, so I'll have some more screenshots tomorrow, or the day after depending on my internet. Hopefully.

Thanks, but I don't think that will work. It's be better if it was the sort of shot you'd get if you were in the Mako and moving the camera. Basically, the idea is that I have to project these shots onto the background, then draw the lines I need over it, using that as a stencil. So, preferably, the shots should be as straight as possible.

Either of those time frames should be fine, thanks again man.

Thank you so much. The first few are all great. The top is not because it needs to be directly over the top, and the same with the bottom, but those are not really necessary, I think you gave me all I need. Thank you.

That said, if anyone can get me a straight view of the top and bottom (maybe by flipping the Mako?), I would appreciate it. It is not completely necessary, however.

The Camera angle dosen't go directly up top, sorry. As for the bottom as far as i know the Mako is unflippable, hence why we had some strange physics with it... If you absolutely need a shot from the bottom i can try snapping one when the Mako descends into orbit.

Yeah, I figured as much about the top camera angle. I'll just have to look at regular pictures of that and guesstimate, there's always some element of that in modeling anyway. As for flipping the Mako, it is actually possible, just very annoying. The same issue would probably apply then too, however. Either way, it's not really necessary. Thanks again.

3d modeling forums? Why didn't I think of that! That makes so much sense, that one image is literally all I will need for this. Thanks man.

Seems you got what you need. Still though, I'll have the game ready in case you need anything else.

Best of luck to you, Roku. Mind showing us the finished result or a tame-lapse video once you're done with the project?
