My ISP set me up with a modem a while ago and I now have some problems. I recently got ahold of a network problem solving program and found some disturbing results. My network is not running at its full compacity. The reason being, The Modem is slowing things down. My average ping for servers in a major city (about 95 miles) of always 75-110. I passed this off as normal for a while. Then my friend got a sever that is less than twewnty miles away. The ping on his server is always about 85. This didnt start to bug me too much until another friend connected from almost 80 miles away and his ping is only 15.
BTW, I checked with my ISP. The only way to fix this is to get a monthly SERVER package so that I can open ports and have smoother network flow. They refuse to work with me otherwise. Is there anything i can do to help my connection? Any help is appreciated.
(I have a LAN as well as a WAN. The problem is not inside my personal network. Its only in the modem.)
