So I live in the second largest[footnote]population-wise that is[/footnote] county in the United States, third largest city in the US and it is ridiculously segregated. Every morning on my train ride to class there is a stop where all the white people get off, and from then on I'm the only white person in the car. What the hell?!

Do any other Escapists' cities have the same problem? Is it just an American problem?

I've always wondered...if Rosa Parks fought so hard for the rights of African-Americans, why is it that they still choose to go to the back of the bus?

Not saying this happens everywhere, but on the local metro buses it seems to be that way every time I get on.

That is not segregation, it would be the physical separation of different ethnic or religious groups. For example in Northern Ireland a big old wall keeps protestants and catholic's apart from one another.

As the others have said, it isn't segregation. Segregation is forcing different people to live somewhere. Most people just try to live around people from similar backgrounds/cultures. Just how the world works usually.

That's not segregation. There's no rule saying the blacks can't get off at that exit. That's just what happened naturally, the way things worked out. None of the black people shared a destination with any of the whites.

In Chicago black families are not given loans to buy houses in certain areas nearly as often as white families, regardless of financial status, same goes for any non-white group, and the same goes for small business owners. This is technically illegal but it doesn't stop lenders from doing it.

For a long time the Dan Ryan Expressway was a de facto wall between racial neighborhoods, and still is in many places.

Dr.Engler: The Clan of Bridgeport could not put up a fence around the minorities, so they did the next best thing, it built the Dan Ryan Expressway in 1962 to act as a border. Yet, even that did not work, and the ethnic strongholds of the southwest and northwest sides of Chicago are feeling the press of another invasion. Just as in 410 A.D. the walls of Rome did not keep Alaric out, the Dan Ryan Expressway will not keep back the Mexicans.

At one point they were forced to live in a specific area, and due to policies by lenders and by the way districts have been physically separated most racial groups are essentially forced to live in certain areas.

I've never really ridden a metro bus before but being the recluse I am I would sit in the back. (white btw) Just random chance of people's preferences I guess, I wouldn't go as far to make racial statements based on observation of the moment. Shit happens by chance sometimes.
