I want an RPG that ia set either now or in the future in the style of fallout 3. I have already played the first two fallouts so don't mention these.

The upcoming Alpha Protocol from Obsidian might appeal to you, but that's still only on the horizon for release.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky?

Mass Effect is a definite, one of the best games I have EVER played.

Air Rivals is pretty good, considering it's free, if you want a MMORPG, as well as Eve Online.

Deus Ex? It may be old, (and an FPS-RPG), but its still good.
Deus Ex is awesome, and the benchmark against which future modern rpg/fps's have been judged. You can get the Game of the Year edition off of steam now too, so no reason to pirate.

Unfortunately, I think we listed a lot of them without dipping into the JRPG genre...Which I can't help you there anyway because I don't play JRPGs.

Aren't a whole lot of good modern and sci-fi RPGs...

Oh wait, System Shock 1 &/or 2. If Deus Ex counts then so does this series.

I'm gonna have to mention Mass Effect again, and recommend that you buy it. It sounds like just the game you're looking for.

I would suggest KotOR but as we all know, Star Wars took place a long time ago (in a galaxy far away).

Nope, just a long time ago. Which is what I liked about the original trilogy. All of the "futuristic" looking ships and weapons were all dirty and barbaric looking. As if technology still had a long ways to go.

Then the prequels came out and blew that out of the water by having awesome, shiny technology.. which makes absolutely no sense.

Already have it and pray every night that EA won't fuck up the series by making BioWare spam it into retardation like they hinted at around the time they bought the company.

*doffs his Mr. Fixit T Shirt* Hello, i'm a Geek, and i'm here to fix the continuity errors Mr. Lucas placed in your childhood dreams.

The REASON technoligy in the OT (Original Trilogy) looks much more beat up and less refined then in the PT (Prequel Trilogy) is in the PT, prior to the Empire there was no true limitations on trade or technological research or production. This is how the trade federation, banking guilds, and mining combines were able to construct inteir armies large enough to conquor whole planets underneat the Republics noses- the military industrial complex had absolutly no checks whatsoever. Darth Sidious/The Emperor exploited this in order to cause the Galactic Civil war which brought and solidified his power. Not being a stupid twat (unlike every other villain ever for some reason) he then very sensibly outlawed cloning, military droids, severely restricted the sale and manufacture of interstellar aircraft, etc etc- in short, forcing the galaxy to rely on the Empire for transport and defense inteirly and making it nigh impossible to establish an army on a grand scale- the rebellion is more a collection of small cells and militia's which operate in secret because if even if they gathered in all one place, the Imperium would crruusshh them. So, in the OT, all the ships/technoligy you see are 20 years old and held together with duct tape and plastic wrap, OR are off the black market. It's funny when you think about it, Lucas is such an overrated hack but through sheer random chance he created the greatest Villain ever- NO NOT VADER, The Emperor! He follows ALL of the Evil Overlord rules.

Maybe if you look at it this way: They made no new ships in the 20 year gap, and the rebels just recycled old republic ships?
Yes, this is actually true

How on EARTH have neither of you guys mentioned Pokemon or Earthbound? And how come no one's mentioned something a little more modern of a setting like say....oh Persona 4?

hey not my fault W-RPG-creators tend to stick with something "safe" and make Ye Olde British Isle and sometimes Sci-Fi RPGs.
