Modern Warfare 2 will not have a subscription fee.

Infinity Ward recently excused themselves from Activision?s possible plans to tack MMO-like subscription fees on to the Call of Duty multiplayer component. In response to the supposed Activision survey we unearthed last week, Infinity Ward community manager Robert ?fourzerotwo? Bowling flatly told official message board users not to worry about extra charges in Modern Warfare 2 because, well, Infinity Ward would ?never introduce? them.

?This rumor has absolutely nothing to do with Infinity Ward or our games, including Modern Warfare 2,? Bowling wrote. ?We would never introduce such a system for Modern Warfare 2, so don?t worry. Multiplayer will always be equal and free for everyone as always.?

The survey we unearthed last week suggested multiple multiplayer enhancements for either a monthly fee or an initial purchasing fee. According to the survey, the MMO-style service would ?enhance the multiplayer experience and provide exclusive access to a group of gameplay enhancements.? This includes early access to expansions and betas, and exclusive access to character skins, enhanced stat tracking, game modes and even ?support for competitive play.?

Infinity Ward isn?t biting, but will Treyarch? We?ll see, I?m sure.

A subscription fee for playing a FPS online is just stupid in my opinion.
So no, it was never a good idea.

If Modern Warfare 2 made us pay for multiplayer then we'd just keep playing something that's free for multiplayer.

It was a stupid remark - I'll omit the questions underneath the article.

Yes, especially if you're playing it over XBL and you are already paying $4 a month for multiplayer anyway. Treyarch is welcome to try it, since I thought W@W was absolute trash, but I'm glad to hear Infinity Ward realizes how terrible an idea this is.

So the site that started all this controversy has posted the following article - what's your thoughts; was it a good idea to begin with - should games like these ever force players to pay for multi-player?
No; people will simply play multiplayer on a game which hasn't introduced ridiculous subscription fees.
Like, say, Call of Duty 4?

To be honest I think Activision need Infinity Ward more than Infinity Ward need Activision...

Yeah, nobody would be dumb enough to pay a monthly fee for online deathmatch (except XBL subscribers.)

OH NO $4 per month?!? All hope is lost. I'm literally typing this from the cardboard box outside my former home. I can't afford rent anymore because of XBL!

Yea, seriously, it's $4 per month. If that is significant to you, you may want to rethink your occupation.

As much as it would hurt me, I would disown my favorite developers right then and there if Infinity Ward pulled that bullshit. Luckily, They didn't ^.^

I love it when people like you open their mouths. 60 dollars a year means you get one less full priced game. It is not "Oh how poor am I?" It is more "Why waste my money on something that sensible companies provide for free?" wasted money is wasted money, so get that corporate cock out of your mouth and think for once.

Nice strawman, but $0/month is better than $4/month.

It's less then 30 minutes of work at most jobs a month however. You could save that money by using one less square of toilet paper per bathroom visit every month. Sure it's 4 dollars, but that's not going to make or break you. Saving it won't make you a wealthy man either, so either way I don't see why we are arguing over it...

Im not even going to take the time to think up a good response to that, and yeah I am dumb enough to pay a whopping four dollars a month.

Anyways im too poor to pay a fee to play Modern Warfare 2 so i would just play something free if they did it. Those $4/month xbox fees are killer
