Modern Warfare 2 PC Multiplayer

Before I start, let me make this clear; this is not another one of those pointless rant treads about how Infinity Ward gimped the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. We have already had a few hundred of those threads, and we don't need another.

This thread is for people who have actually bought MW2. Things like, if the matchmaking is working well, how hard is it to find a match with a good connection, and specifically I would like to ask if anyone in Ireland could tell me their experiences. I don't want to drop €60 on this and have it turn out like Diablo 2: totally unplayable due to lag.

Also, now that you have actually experienced the game, do you think people's fears about it were justified, or unfounded?

Im having no problems with it. even finding games easy with a Strict NAT type i cant change, stupid Zyxel... anyway buy it and have alot of fun

Where I am in Australia, all P2P games Borderlands, any console game make PC MW2 an unplayable lag fest. I tried MP at my neighbor who has it and although the MP worked he was leading his gun to get kills due to a 2 sec lag. Sure it was playable, but if he fired up CoD4 MP then there's no lag at all.

Lack of dedicated servers essentially kills the MP for this game for many people, so you're then left with having paid 110 dollars for a 4 hour SP experience. If ded servers were added then happy times ahead because the actual MP itself looks to be epic fun.

I have no problems with the multiplayer matchmaking system...

I've only been put in game with less than 4 bars of ping once...

Can't complain at all

I bought MW 2 for the PC and so far on multiplayer, I have had no problems whatsoever. I find a match fast, I have no lag whatsoever while playing, and haven't ran into any hackers. Though I am in the US.

mp WHEN it works is fun and the options you get are awesome, nuke ftw. But i have to agree with most with no dedicated servers kills the game, as well as the p2p gives host no lag for the most part and they use it to make an unfair advantage

Well because it is conflicting, the matchmaking system is terrible for the game so you are either going to get "NO problems WHAT SO EVAR!" or an unplayable mess.

Actually, the answer is pretty simple if you look at it from the right angle. Both the positive and the negative posts are correct and what's the defining difference between them? Location!

Are you in the US? If yes, go have fun. Are you in Australia or some slightly out-of-the-way place (Ireland, Iceland, Grenland, etc.)? Don't even bother.

In the end, the doomsayers are correct in their assessments that this was a step backwards. Providing stable multiplayer for only a portion of your user base is retarded, especially if you have the technology to easily provide it for ALL your users.

I've had no problems so far really. I dislike the lack of dedicated servers, and the way you cant leave without acquiring a loss.

Played it and hated it. As stated before, a lagfest. The servers are horrible and the player limit makes it all feel cheap and console-ish.

I'm Irish, and for the PC, it's almost totally unplayable, avoid it for the PC.

Laaaaag supreme and lack of dedicated servers, loads of hacking and it takes loads of tries to find a server close to you so your ping usually skyrockets.

Everything they said about it was true.

I agree, Ireland has awful lag on the 360 when there's an American host so I imagine its the same on the PC.
