I don't really play them, but I'm tired of hearing about war games in general. ESPECIALLY the "America vs the world" war games.
So... if I had to design one. I dunno. Make a FPS where you play as a... I dunno.... Bulgarian seamstress who shoots .... um ....humanoid creatures who wear puppy and kitten heads as masks, I dunno. Just something different.

There not as ubiquitous as people are making them out to be. What there is COD and Battlefield? Witch are big sellers but there are also games like Resistance 3, The Darkness 2, and Hard Reset. The games are out there it's not like "modern warfare" shooters are the only thing you can find.

So, how maybe an east-asian hero instead? I can't think of any game that has an east-asian protagonist in it. Games with anime visuals don't count since the characters don't look like asians. I mean, one that actually looks the part.
I have to reach back a long long way, but the Golgo 13 games on the NES fit...

I am more concerned about how DEPRESSING AS FUCK Modern Warfare style shooters are. It is literally a boot to your face as everyone around you dies. You die as you are forced to commit horrible atrocities or be subject to one.

What happened to the relatively clinical tactical shooters where your squad is a well trained and disciplined squad of soldiers instead of HARD MEN MAKING HARD DECISIONS!!!!

I for one would love to play as a young revolutionary, as long as it was fun to play too.

Doesn't even need to be in the Arab Springs, any sort of revolution would be great to play, though I'd definitely like to see something that isn't standard American stuff.

Let's just get away from modern times altogether. I'm so tired of holding M16's and AK-47's.

Give me my damn laser guns back.
Finally, someone who wants to see some creativity. Future weapons are far more interesting in case you forgot.

I want to use more strategic stuff like the laptop gun, gravity gun, x-ray guns, weapons that make you nearly invisible, guided missles, spider mines, poison gas, heat ray, portal gun, etc.

I'll say it again, make a WW2 FPS in an alternate universe where the Americans are the bad guys, and you play as either a Russian or a German solider.

Throw in a co-op campaign and some CoD multiplayer and it would be great. IMO of course...

I've always clung to the idea that a modern shooter about impoverished peoples fighting in a viva la revolution freedom fighter versus other viva la revolution freedom fighers would be both much, much more interesting than the jingoistic "AMERICA! FUCK YEAH" bs we've been getting, and much more tied in with what actually happens in reality, since the current era is marked by a distinct lack of largescale warfare, what with the blitzkrieg tactics of large nationalistic forces making war more or less a pointless afair.
If it was anymore jingoistic, the Americans will be pulling off flawless victories, install what you get is Americans dying like animals to russian forces. Your character becoming another statistic.

I totally forgot Darkness1&2, even if it would be hard to do Jackie like he is in the comics they are great examples of a unique FPS without warfare or si-fi elements and i`m a sucker for superpower(hero) games. I want mooooore, to bad Dakness2 didn`t do so well.

The problem with not having the main character be some army's special forces is that then you're just basically just some schmuck running around with a gun. You can't justify giving the player the knowhow to work the guns and gadgets like a special forces operative, nor can you justify a similar loadout.

This is a problem to the current shooter model, but something like metro 2033...

I miss old games that didnt have to worry about religion or ethnicity only killing demons from hell or surviving a horde of zombie monkeys.

You should fire up the Timesplitters series. A shooter with each game focusing on different eras in time, each with their own weapons and enemies. I'll never get tired of dual-wielding that SBP-90. Or the minigun from the first game. Dual wielding miniguns. Yes, I am nuts.

A question to everyone asking for a WW2 shooter...Why aren't you playing Red Orchestra 2?

I have some three day quest passes if anyone wants them

There are other options to explain why the character can operate weapons and not being a soldier. Games like GTA (ok it`s tps but still) put you in the role of a criminal, there are games letting you be a cop, a mercenary and if they are out of ideas or if it fits you get to play a veteran or they just put an "ex-" before the mentioned types, some don`t even use any explenation. If you take the stereotype of the typical american everyone has and can operate weapons. I have no problems with playing an average Joe with some weapon knowledge, i just don`t like them pulling off supermoves like the knife throws shown in the FarCry3 footage for example.

The idea of a regular guy who has to handle special gadgets can make great story elements. I mean, let me play those situations myself, it would add the immersion to show a total fuck up and the handeling of the situation afterwards and it would break the "shoot everything you see" gameplay.

You know what shooter this generation needs? Timesplitters 4. And it should let you ride on the back of a dinosaur, wielding a weapon that shoots exploding clown shoes and joined by a sassy fish-head sidekick.

Oh, sorry, realistic shooters? Yeah, we've had enough of those this generation...

So. Got any brand new ideas on what shooters should focus on?
Star Wars Battlefront 3, that would be fun.

If not that, I do have another idea for a game that would be quirky fun. Lord of the Rings-like characters and setting, but with guns. All of the orcs, elves, dwarves, people, and other miscellaneous bits, but with rifles, shotguns, smgs, or other zany ranged contraptions.
