Ok so personaly i really dont care if people mod games just as long as they keep it sensible and all. Im not going to say that i dont do it because i do for black ops zombie mode and i have a blast and so do some random people that i meet.

But i would like to ask all of you escapists what is your view on this? I really see nothing wrong with it if your not being an idiot with it or being a dick to other people.

Modding is great, but it's not something you can do with console games. Did you mean hacking or glitching? Because they're two different concepts. One is never a bad thing, while the other almost always is. For example, the original Team Fortress, which TF2 is a sequel to, was a mod for Quake which Valve liked so much that they bought the rights to it and made a running series out of it. Bunny hopping, also from Quake, was originally seen as a glitch, although it eventually came to be a feature in later games of the series. Other glitches are more broken, and do things like allow people to get outside the map and snipe people who can't possible see them.

wait... you can mod Black ops? do you mean exploiting glitches? modding is changing or adding content to a game(done by someone who didnt make the game) are you sure you mean modding?

You have absolutely no idea what modding is.
This is a mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009
What you are talking about is a hack.

It seems you are talking more about hacks, like using the dev console, in which case I tend to agree. However, modding isn't a simple matter of spawining a tank in an indoor level, it's changing the game itself, often to the point of it being an entirely new game using the same engine. As a modder myself, I think this is a great idea, because for several reasons:

- It's fun.
- Mods can extend the lifespan of a game significantly (there are still active mod projects for C&C Generals, including mine)
- It's a good way to learn about how games are developed and balanced beyond the initial stage of developing the engine.
- Often times, mods are more fun than the original game (again, C&C Generals).

Of course, games are becoming modder unfriendly with increasing regularity because of DRM concerns and such, but c'est la vie.

To me, there are 3 groups of modders:

- The griefers, cheaters, and etc. They in online multiplayer without other's consent, harmiing other's play experience, perhaps cheat, or even harm other's game. THESE guys are giving the other modders a bad name.

- The people who just want to have fun. They mainly play not in online multiplayer, but in custom matches with the consent of others, just to have fun and mess around. I have no issue with these ones, I used to inadvertently get invited to some modded Halo 2 lobbies, and I had a blast, it's entertaining to play these. (Shotgun that shoots fuel rod rounds FTW!)

- The creative modders. These are the best ones. They mod to add to the game, by adding maps, textures, reskins, or new weapons. These guys have my respect.

If you mod games to share with other players, i.e. Warcraft III with the world editor, then modding can be a wonderful thing.

If you mod to distinctively gain a competitive edge over another player (I'm looking at YOU, controller modders), then modding is a terrible thing. It all depends on what the mod is and how it is being used.

Look at Halo 3 and Halo: Reach with all of the custom game modes and maps. This is a limited example of modding, but an example of the good that can come out of mods.

I disapprove of moding in a game. I also disapprove of hacking, for different reasons.
