i know this might be old news to everybody but me, but after x amount of years of having oblivion on my xbox i decided to get it for my laptop so i could download some user created mods. i had been looking at some websites and some youtube clips and found some pretty neat ones. the only problem is i downloaded it off of steam and i cant figure out how to get the game to use the mod. i know i sound inept but hey, this is like my first time trying to play a game on a computer. if anybody could give me a hint that would be great. and if you have any favorites please give me a link to where i can download them to try them out.

After you download the mod a winzip file window shows up and your supposed to unzip the file into DATA under Programfiles/Steam/steamapps/common/oblivion and extract to data. Also check the Update file instead of overwrite file in the corner panel of Winzip so it doesn't overwrite anything important.

cool, thanks. by the way, in one of the videos i saw a guy bring up a bit of text in the lower left corner of the screen, he used a command unlock and it unlocked a door. is that a mod or is there anyway to modify the game while playing?

Well it depends on whether or not you need the ring of gods if you cant activate it by just pushing the ~ key its below the escape key you can also use it to get money and equipment. Try useing it when you begin if it doesn't work get the ring of the gods mod.

IMO never buy anything off of steam but I just hate the program. Especially after their stupid advertising campaign "stay inside and play games bee stings can be fatal". What nonsense.

FOr mods check out tesnexus's top 100. Most of them are fantastic.

While I don't have the links, the site you want to go to is TESNexus.com.

Sign up (its free), and then you can download any files you want. (No sign up means no files over 2MB in size).

Key files to look for:

Oblivion Mod Manager (OMM): Makes installing and managing most mods much, much easier.

Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE): Allows greater flexibility in Oblivion's code, and is required for many mods to work.

Operation Optimization: Changes how Oblivion loads and handles data, making it much easier for your system handle, often resulting in better loading times and noticably higher FPS.

Landscapes: There are quite a few good landscape mods that improve/change the way Oblivion looks.

Alive Waters: Adds a much higher level of detai and flaura + fawna to the waters in Oblivion.

Clocks: Adds clocks to the streets in cities.

And there are a few more I use, but won't talk about here.
