I played Fallout 3 with a sum total well over 200 hours, but what I noticed was that most of that was spent on PC messing with different mods - from Real-Time Settler to Zombie Apocalypse. Getting myself some stealth armor, or decking out a small party in WH40k Marine gear and Cleansing the Wasteland for the Emperor.

And, on occassion, doing it all at the same time to spectacular effect.

So, how have you modded a game in a way which has seen you stick with it far longer than it by all rights has to your life?

STALKER was the first game I modded, The mods probably quadrupled my play time, and this is usually the case with all Sand box games I get

I modded the hell out of Oblivion. Added new races to play as, new quest line involving an aqueduct, complete reskin of nearly all the weapons and armor, just lots of mods. Ended up with something like 6 Gb of just mods for the game.

Oblivion Lost for STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl, just started my third playthrough of the mod, which will be 6th time I'll be going for a completion of the game (one way or another)

MechWarrior: Living Legends total conversion for Crysis (now Wars too) - put what must be hundreds of hours into this mod, and it's only a year old.

The Dark Mod for Doom3 - once again, played this faaaar longer than I have the base game.

Mods are good, but a well done total conversion mod is even better.

JA2 is pretty rocking vanilla and I will play it forever, but if for some reason that gets dull then JA2v1.13 comes to the rescue.

I spent some time in the Oblivion Construction Set, and would have liked to spend a lot more, except my desktop is a horrible mish-mash of custom parts that periodically blue-screens from hardware errors.

Not sure if you would call it modding, but I loved to dabble with Age of Empires 2 AIs. My triumph was making one that managed to defeat a Hard computer... okay, it stole all the relics on the map, but a win's a win.

Oblivion.

Added a mod that adds the entire province of Elseweyr [http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36303] to the game. Complete with many quests, cities, locations, ect.

There's also a mod that adds Valenwood, but its an early release. And in German. There's a translation project going for it though. I'd link to it, but after I got the link to Elseweyr Nexus stopped loading for me.

Also Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and Deadly Reflex.

The first overhauls the game adding many quests, items, NPC's, creatures, and more. It also fixes many issues with the game mechanics. Mainly making bosses actually difficult(no more defeating Mannimarco, the strongest of all necromancers, at level 3).

The second overhauls the combat, making it much more fun and intense. There's a saying in the Oblivion modding community, once you go Deadly Reflex, you can't go back.

Again, I'd provide links, but Nexus is being a ***** to me.

I have modded Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, the STALKER games, Dragon Age: Origins, and many more to the extent that they're often almost completely different games than they were when I got my grasping hands on them. Oblivion is a showcase of my unethical experimentation. It's ridiculous.

And that is why consoles suck ass, PC will reign again.
Nah, I'm kidding.

Garry's Mod, obviously, is something that has had the ever-living shit modded out of it. And, on one occasion, when a friend was browsing garrysmod.org for a while, it has had the (Not necessarily ever-living) shit modded into it. Make of that what you will.

There's tons of games I'm not mentioning here. In summary, I am a mod fiend.

I can't offer any recommendations, since mods have now become completely seamlessly integrated into how I imagine these games. So yeah, my top mod recommendations are Oblivion, Fallout 3, STALKER, and (obviously) Garry's Mod.
